Aston Villa have been keeping tabs on several targets to consider signing from the Portuguese top flight big match last weekend.
Aston Villa have been reportedly scouting several targets while watching the classic big match in Portuguese top tier last weekend. It was the encounter between FC Porto and Benfica.
According to the report in A Bola via Sportwitness, The scouts from The Clarets and Blue were enlisted in the match to watch the target closely.
“Aston Villa had a good reason to pay attention to both sides of Sunday’s clássico, with scouts watching Porto beat Benfica 3-1 at the Dragão.”
From the home side, Aston Villa could gain interest in Victor Froholdt, Gabri Veiga and Alberto Costa. Two of them are midfielders as well as the scorers in that game.
Froholdt was impressive in the game as he scored the second goal as well as created the chance leading to the third goal through his key passes from the right flank. The 20-year-old Danish international has been playing regularly for Porto.
Meanwhile, Gabri Veiga netted the opener in the game. The midfielder returned to Europe last season after spending two years in the Middle East. The former Celta Vigo man has been one of the key men in Francesco Farioli’s side too.
Lastly, Alberto Costa is the youngster who could be Villa’s future target. The 22-year-old right back could be Matty Cash’s long term replacement.
Meanwhile, from the visitor’s side, The Lions already plan to watch Vangelis Pavlidis. The Greek frontman has been the prolific goalscorer in his team. Last summer, he was even already linked to Villa. The 27-year-old striker did not have the best form in that game. He only had one clear chance and was denied by Diogo Costa.
The one Villa might consider signing, especially if Alejandro Garnacho has been unable to impress till January is Gianluca Pristianni. The 20-year old winger was in fine form in that match. He had a clean opportunity to open the scoring in the first half but the ball from his header flew wide.
However, the Argentine managed to contribute well when Benfica netted the equaliser. He set up Alexander Bah’s goal through his crossing as he penetrated Porto’s defence from the left flank.
There has been no official confirmation from Unai Emery’s side on their solid interest to sign any of those targets yet. Villa might be scouting them as a reference to secure their signature in the future, especially considering their contracts with their current clubs.
