Juventus icon Leonardo Bonucci has officially joined Roberto Mancini’s coaching team for the Italian national squad, according to confirmation from the FIGC.
The announcement finalises the backroom staff surrounding Roberto Mancini’s second spell in charge of Italy as the Azzurri prepare for September’s Nations League campaign. Gabriele Oriali will serve as team manager, while Alberto Bollini continues as assistant head coach. Bonucci joins Antonio Gagliardi and Massimo Maccarone among the technical collaborators.
The completed staff also includes goalkeeping coach Marco Roccati and assistant Cristiano Lupatelli, fitness coaches Giacomo Ceci and Marco Montini, alongside chief analysts Renato Baldi and Christian Venturini.
The technical restructuring follows a period of institutional upheaval after Italy’s defeat in the World Cup play-off final against Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 31. Gennaro Gattuso departed as CT following the defeat, which was followed by the resignations of FIGC President Gabriele Gravina and delegation chief Gianluigi Buffon.
Giovanni Malagò subsequently took over as FIGC President and appointed Mancini after initial inquiries were made regarding Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, and Andrea Pirlo. Former defender Paolo Maldini also stepped down from his role as technical director after a brief 17-day spell.
As detailed by Il Messaggero, finalising the technical staff gives Italy its full group of coaches ahead of the Nations League campaign. Bonucci will work alongside Mancini, Bollini, Gagliardi and Maccarone in the senior national-team setup.
