Aston Villa have been reportedly in the mix to sign England international who once played for La Liga giant.
Aston Villa seem to begin to look for the long term replacement for their senior stars. The likes of John McGinn and Ross Barkley are particularly entering their early 30s, meaning that they need successors as they could not be count on in every single game.
Thus, The Lions are targeting several high profile versatile midfielders to sign starting next year, either in January or in summer. One of them is the England international who previously plied his trade in La Liga side, Atletico Madrid, Conor Gallagher, as reported in fussball news.
“Aston Villa are one of the Premier League clubs weighing up a move for Tottenham midfielder Conor Gallagher.”
Conor Gallagher joined Spurs after leaving Atletico Madrid in January 2026 with the transfer fee up to £ 33.4 million. He is still tied up to his contract until summer 2031. His current value is £ 26.7 million but his price tag or even asking price would be higher than that as Spurs are not under pressure to sell him soon.
Last summer, Unai Emery’s side have been keeping tabs on him for a while. Last winter transfer windown, they were interested in signing him but it was not materialized. Now, Villa would be in the race to secure his move with Leeds United and Everton as their rivals. They have been reportedly ready to sign him in January.
The 26-year-old midfielder has just moved back to London after his spell in Spain. He was playing regularly as a starter last season under Igor Tudor before De Zerbi’s arrival. Gallagher even contributed heavily in salvaging Spurs from relegation as he netted one while his side crushed Unai Emery’s men 2-1 on the road in May 2026.
However, the ex-Chelsea man has yet been able to seal his place in the starting XI this season. The arrival of Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and the return of James Maddison has put his regular minutes in danger. This season, the midfielder with 22 international caps has just got a nod as a starter three times in the league, at the opener in Brentford loss, while holding Nottingham Forest in a goalless draw and while sharing spoils versus Manchester United.
A move to Villa Park would be appealing for him indeed. It gives him an opportunity to develop his game under Emery plus competing in Europe regularly. However, with such price tag and his current contract, it remains to be seen if Villa would be easy to snatch him this January or could lure Spurs to let him go on loan.
