Aston Villa v Fulham: Team News, predicted line up, match preview

Aston Villa are hosting Fulham on the weekend for the Premier League fixture on Saturday night at 8 pm.

Aston Villa are back for their home game this weekend in the Premier League fixtures. They are playing host to Fulham which are still stuck at the bottom half of the table. Yet, Alvaro Arbeloa’s men have been improving as they are no longer in the relegation zone but sitting on the 15th. Villa are now on the 9th after snatching their first Premier League win at home last weekend against Manchester City.

The Lions just slumped into an unexpected 3-0 loss from Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, which practically ended their unbeaten run since before the international break. Emery might not prioritise that tournament but it brings a setback to the team’s positive trend. Let us hope it does not impact the team’s confidence.

Villa are still superior in their head-to-head records in the past six games. They clinched five wins and only suffered one loss. Yet, their only defeat was in their last encounter. It was in the Premier League last season when John McGinn and Co visited Craven Cottage. Thus, The Lions still need to be careful with them.

Team News

The number of injuries in Villa has been decreasing for sure with the return of Ian Maatsen, Brian Madjo and Leon Goretzka to the pitch. Only four names are still unavailable for this game, Matteo Ruggeri, Aaron Wan Bissaka and Amadou Onana. Modou Cisse has been reportedly back in the training and could be named in the bench, should he be deemed physically fit.

In the starting XI, Emery should be returning to their best team. Zion Suzuki is back between the sticks. Pau Torres and Victor Lindelof are at the heart of the backline with Matty Cash and Ian Maatsen in both flanks.

In the midfield, Boubacar Kamara could be patched up with Leon Goretzka to add his minutes on the pitch as well as experimenting with his quality. The German midfielder is the only profile in the squad whose style of play is probably quite similar to Youri Tielemans. He would be taking a double pivot role to support Johan Manzambi, John McGinn and Ibrahim Mbaye in front of them. Nicolas Jackson is returning to lead the line upfront.

Emery hopes they can be back on their winning ways since they would have tough games ahead. Both in Europe and in the Premier League as the league enters the beginning of crucial stage of the season in November.
