Aston Villa might be pondering about their decision on finding Marco Bizot’s replacement following Bournemouth loss.
Aston Villa might have to make decision quickly on the goalkeeper department following the dismal form of Marco Bizot, Zion Suzuki’s understudy. His two blunders led to two Bournemouth goals. The Dutchman’s form is rather worrying as Villa would have to solely rely on him during Suzuki’s possible absence in early 2027. The Japan international is expected to join the Samurai Blue squad for Asian Cup 2027 in Saudi Arabia.
His performance yesterday in Vitality stadium has been something which might concerns Emery. He did make four saves in the match but apart from that Bizot really needs to prove himself that he can be as reliable as last season. He only made three clearances, attempted 16 long balls but only five of them were accurate. His two costly errors just made his form worse.
With the expected six games without Suzuki, Villa needs to resolve immediately. Since Bizot’s contract expires in the summer next year, it would be interesting to see if The Lions opts to keep him till he sees out his contract or not.
The Dutchman’s form this season is surprisingly not as convincing as last season. He could still be in fine form even if he was only picked on the last minute due to Emiliano Martinez’s sudden injury. It happened in some games such as versus Nottingham Forest in City Ground in April. He managed to help Villa to hold them in a tie.
The former Brest man was in fact playing regularly at the beginning of 2025/26 campaign following Martinez’s absence due to his failed move to Manchester United. Bizot featured in some games in Premier League and Europa League. Overall, he made 14 appearances last season with four clean sheets.
Last season, based on the data in FotMob, his saving percentage was only 65. 5 % while his successful passes reached 76.3 %. Bizot also took up the sweeper-goalkeeper role in seven times.
Unfortunately, this season, his save percentage is only 60 %, while his successful passes is 74.2 %. The 35-year-old also just acts as sweeper once only in four games Bizot has played so far.
Should Villa opt to find his replacement soon, several names can be tempting to lure to Villa Park. Emery might be hunting some shot stopper figures whose contract also expires in summer 2027. He should be ideally under 33 years old and have the experience at the top level.
There are some names who could be approached but they are probably not as young as expected. The likes of Thibault Cortois, Nick Pope, Alphonse Areola and Matty Ryan can be available but they are already 33 or 34 years old.
Meanwhile, Villa’s target such as River Plate’s Santiago Beltran is likely to have his contract extended with the huge release clause. That means, only two names who seem to be ideal as Villa’s target, Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro and Bodoe/Glimt’s Nikita Haikin.
Remiro is an experienced goalie with La Real in all continental competition from Europa League and UEFA Champions League. He was the key man when his side won Copa Del Rey twice. The 31-year-old shot stopper has 68 % saving percentage this season in La Liga, based on FotMob data. He has acted as sweeper 10 times with his rate of successful passes up to 66.8 % and 43.1 % for accurate long ball.
Meanwhile, Haikin is the key figure in the Norwegian sensation when his team reached semifinal in Europa League 2025 and round of 16 in Champions League last season. He was even considered one of the best goalkeepers in UCL 2025/26 based on his saving percentage. Based on the data in FotMob, the 31-year old shot stopper has 77.8 % saving percentage in UCL this season while he has only acted as sweeper twice. However, his ability to pass and deliver long ball is below Remiro, with only 56.8 % for successful passes and 28.9 % for accurate long ball
