Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken publicly about the condition of Bukayo Saka following the winger’s early departure against Bayern Munich.
Saka was forced off during the midweek Champions League fixture, prompting immediate concern among Arsenal supporters and staff about the severity of the problem.
Arteta confirmed that Saka had a significant amount of fluid in his quad, which complicated the initial assessment of the injury on the night.
The Arsenal boss revealed that his star winger was sent for an MRI scan to help specialists gain a clearer understanding of what they are dealing with.
“He’s going for an MRI this afternoon because he had a lot of fluid in the area so it was difficult to understand the severity of the injury,” Arteta said.
The Spanish manager made clear that the club would need additional information before drawing any firm conclusions about the 25-year-old’s prognosis.
“We will know more tomorrow. We need a few more scans and opinions from the specialists,” Arteta added, leaving the timeline for Saka’s return open.
Arsenal supporters will be bracing themselves for news, given that Saka has faced increasing injury issues over the past couple of years at the club.
The question of who can adequately cover for Saka in the starting lineup is one Arteta will have to answer if the England international faces any extended absence.
Noni Madueke has impressed since joining Arsenal and has also shown he can operate effectively on the left flank, giving the manager some flexibility in how he deploys his squad.
That versatility from Madueke could open the door for young winger Max Dowman to receive more first-team minutes on the right side, where he has already shown genuine potential.
Arsenal will be eager to have Saka back at the earliest opportunity, as he remains one of the most important and influential players the club has had for several years.
