Aston Villa are welcoming the Turkish outfit, Fenerbahce at Villa Park in the midweek for the matchday two in the Champions League.
Aston Villa are aiming to secure their first win at home this season in the next game this midweek while playing host to Fenerbahce. The European games have been a catalyst to boost their confidence and performance in the past two seasons.
In the 2025/26 campaign, Unai Emery’s side snatched their first win against Bologna in their first game of Europa League. This season, they also picked up their first three points while thumping Club Brugge on the road last month. Now, John McGinn and Co are hoping to do the same for their first home win.
This season, their form in front of their own fans has been woeful. They lost twice and were held once in three outings at Villa Park. Last weekend, they were still unable to secure a victory after sharing spoils versus Brentford.
The Lions have been unbeaten in their last three games and so have their opposition side. Fenerbahce managed to hold AS Roma in a 1-1 tie in the opener. Meanwhile, in the head-to-head record, Villa has won in all three encounters, two were in the first round of UEFA Cup 1977/78 and one was last season in Europa League.
However, they could not look down on Fener as they have a number of former Premier League stars from Ederson Moraes, NGolo Kante, Romelu Lukaku, Mason Greenwood, Nathan Ake and the ex-Aston Villa star on loan two seasons ago, Marco Asensio. The former PSG man definitely knows Unai Emery’s team inside out.
Aston Villa are heading to this game without several players due to the injuries. They are Matteo Ruggeri, Amadou Onana, Ian Maatsen, Brian Madjo, Modou Cisse, Leon Goretzka, and the youngster George Hemmings. Meanwhile, the new signing, Taylor Harwood-Bellis is not included in the Champions League squad. The left back crisis is looming, and Emery would need to decide who should fill the void in the left flank.
Zion Suzuki is the number one between the sticks, while at the heart of the back line, Pau Torres should be ready to return as a starter to accompany Victor Lindelof. Matty Cash is still the first choice on the right flank while Aaron Wan Bissaka is the only option available to start as a left back.
In the midfield, Boubacar Kamara and Joao Gomes would be the main option as the double pivot to support Emi Buendia, John McGinn and Johan Manzambi on the attacking side with Nicolas Jackson leading the line.
Several names could be making appearances from the bench if they are still unable to break the deadlock. The likes of Ross Barkley, Ibrahim Mbaye, Alysson and perhaps Alejandro Garnacho could be given a nod in the second half.
The duel between Aston Villa and Fenerbahce will be available on TNT Sports 1 or TNT Sports Ultimate as well as live streaming. The fans can also enjoy this match on discovery+ app.
