Juventus’ 22 Shots Bring Only a Point at Cagliari

Juventus recorded 22 shots and 10 on target at Cagliari, yet needed Randal Kolo Muani’s 81st-minute goal to salvage a 1-1 draw on Sunday 11 October. Daniel Maldini had put the hosts ahead, while the visitors’ control brought little reward until late.

Football Italia and Sky Sport reported the same scoreline and scorers. Juventus held 72 per cent possession, but Cagliari’s lead stood for more than an hour as the Bianconeri struggled to turn the ball into clear chances.

Maldini punishes a Juventus mistake

Maldini opened the scoring in the 20th minute after winning possession from Francisco Conceição. His first effort was blocked, but the rebound returned to him and he finished from close range. The goal continued a run of scoring in four consecutive Serie A appearances, according to Football Italia.

Juventus had already threatened through Weston McKennie’s lay-off to Nico González, whose effort from close range went wide. They finished the first half with one shot on target, despite dominating the ball. Cagliari, who had won three consecutive matches and four of their first five, arrived above Juventus in the table.

The visitors were also without Kenan Yildiz, Khéphren Thuram, Manuel Locatelli, Jérémie Boga, Jeff Ekhator, Kamil Grabara and Arkadiusz Milik. Neto was unavailable through suspension, Football Italia reported.

Kolo Muani levels, then hits the bar

Introduced alongside Edon Zhegrova after the break, Kerim Alajbegović supplied the cross for the equaliser. Kolo Muani got in front of Adam Obert at the far post and glanced his header beyond Elia Caprile. It was the forward’s first goal of the season.

Four minutes later, a near-identical delivery gave Kolo Muani the chance to put Juventus ahead. This time his close-range volley struck the underside of the crossbar. Andrea Cambiaso also tested Caprile, while Zhegrova forced several saves after coming on.

The late pressure could not turn the draw into a win. Juventus avoided defeat, but the 22-shot tally underscored the gap between their territorial dominance and their finishing. At the final whistle, an altercation between Luciano Spalletti and Fabio Pisacane ended with both coaches shown red cards, according to the match report.
