Aston Villa are back in action for UEFA Champions League with a clash in midweek against Fenerbahce in Villa Park.
Aston Villa are heading for the second game in the continental competition as they play host to Turkish giant, Fenerbahce on Wednesday night. Unai Emery’s form at home has not been as satisfactory as their away games this season. They have yet to secure a single win at their home turf, with only one draw and two defeats in three home games.
Their last outing last weekend in the Premier League was their first point in front of their own fans. Such is quite in contrast to their result on the road. John McGinn and Co have picked up three wins, one in each different competition, Premier League, EFL League Cup and Champions league.
Unfortunately, Villa’s preparation for this encounter has been disrupted by injuries. Matteo Ruggeri’s injury last weekend after Ian Maatsen’s injury has put the Lions in a left back crisis. They can only rely on Aaron Wan Bissaka as the only available option, despite the fact that he is not a natural left back. They are also going to play without George Hemmings, Brian Madjo and Leon Goretzka, plus Modou Cisse and Amadou Onana for sure. The first four names have returned in the team training session but are still unlikely to hit the pitch soon. Such is surely quite devastating for Emery.
The Lions’ head-to-head record against Fener is quite promising. They won three out of three meetings previously. Two of them were in the first rounds of UEFA Cup 1978, whereas the last duel was last season in Europa League league phase.
The match between Aston Villa v Fenerbahce will be held at 8 pm on Wednesday, October 14. It will be staged in Villa Park.
The duel between the Belgian champions and Europa League winners will be available on TNT Sports 1 or TNT Sports Ultimate as well as live streaming. The fans can also enjoy this match on discovery+ app.
