'No intention of extending': Another LIV star eyes exit following Jon Rahm's departure

When Jon Rahm announced he would leave the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf in late 2023, the news shook the golf world. Rahm was at the top of his powers, having just won his second major at the 2023 Masters, and he had declared “fealty” to the PGA Tour one year before.

But there was another major LIV signing around at the same time, a young pro who had just captured the European Tour Player of the Year award.

That player was Polish golfer Adrian Meronk.

Fast-forward three years, and Rahm has officially confirmed he will not be a part of a rebooted LIV 2.0. And on the same day, a new report from Eurosport journalist Jacek Person claimed that, as with Rahm, Meronk’s time with LIV Golf has come to an end.

Adrian Meronk has ‘no intention’ of signing with LIV 2.0: Report

Meronk may never achieve anywhere near the level of stardom that Rahm has, but he’s an accomplished pro in his own right, and just the kind of golfer LIV 2.0 wants to sign up.

Meronk grew up in Poland before moving to the U.S. to play college golf at East Tennessee State University.

After working his way to the European Tour (now the DP World Tour), Meronk captured two wins in 2022 and then two more in 2023. Shortly after getting snubbed from the 2023 European Ryder Cup team, Meronk was named Player of the Year.

One month later, he announced he was signing with LIV Golf for the 2024 season. Rahm had revealed his exit from the PGA Tour just weeks before.

He played well during his time with LIV, capturing one victory at the 2025 LIV Golf Riyadh event. But after the Saudi Arabian PIF pulled funding from LIV and LIV filed for bankruptcy, Meronk’s future with the league was up in the air, as was the case with all LIV players.

That no longer appears to be the case, at least for Meronk.

On Wednesday, Eurosport’s Jacek Person reported on X that Meronk “has no intention of extending his contract with LIV Golf.”

If the report turns out to be true, it would be another big blow to LIV. But it wouldn’t be a complete surprise, especially given what Meronk did (and said) last week.

At the 2026 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Meronk fired a final-round 68 at St. Andrews’ Old Course to capture a two-shot victory.

It was his fifth career DP World Tour win, and it came at the Home of Golf, no less.

On Sunday night after his victory, Meronk admitted that his latest DP World Tour triumph, which secured him status on the tour through 2028, would impact his decision on where to play next year.

“It’s a little bit unknown, to be honest,” Meronk said of his future Sunday night. “Obviously I came here after the LIV season was done to keep my status, to keep my playing rights for next season. Obviously this helps me tremendous — a lot. So I’m going to have to re-evaluate my goals, my schedule and how my future will look like but this helps a lot for sure.”

As for LIV, Meronk said there were “a lot of unknowns” about what LIV 2.0 will look like, or if it will happen at all.

“It is — it’s been weird. It’s been a very strange year on LIV, obviously finding about Saudis backing off and finding new investors. There’s still a lot of unknowns that we are not sure of,” Meronk said.

He continued by revealing that the uncertain nature of LIV’s future has made it difficult for him to make decisions about his own playing career next year and beyond, but that his win would force him to “reconsider” his options.

“And to be honest, it’s hard from a player’s perspective to make a decision. So I’ll just wait and see. We still have a couple weeks but as I said, this helps a lot. I have to really reconsider and see what’s going to happen.”

Now that reconsideration seems to have led Meronk to choose the DP World Tour over LIV.

LIV Golf outlook dire after Rahm, Meronk departure news

Earlier on Wednesday, Rahm’s lawyers said in bankruptcy court that the proposed terms for LIV 2.0 were “unacceptable” and declared that Rahm “will not be participating going forward in LIV 2.0.”

The news dealt a body blow to LIV Golf, which is desperately trying to gain commitments from players to sign on with LIV 2.0. Without a certain number of players on board, the league may not be able to secure investment to relaunch next year.

Of course, not just any players will do. LIV needs some stars to stick around to give the new-look tour a chance at survival.

Outside of Bryson DeChambeau, Rahm was LIV’s biggest star and its best player. Had Meronk won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and then publicly announced he would re-sign with LIV, that may have given some momentum to the league’s efforts. But with Meronk leaving too, there was no way to spin the bad news. And it came on the heels of another ominous move by a LIV star.

Last week, Sergio Garcia’s lawyers made a court filing requesting for Garcia’s LIV contract to be officially “terminated” to allow him to explore other career opportunities. That termination was granted this week. Though Garcia’s lawyers made it clear in their filing that the termination of Garcia’s contract does not necessarily mean he won’t commit to LIV 2.0, it’s another bad sign for the upstart league.

In light of Garcia’s filing, several other players reportedly requested the same permission to terminate their contracts if they so choose.
