Aston Villa making inquiry for the ex-Inter Milan man for the next transfer window

Aston Villa have made an inquiry for the former Inter Milan man after facing off in a friendly match.

Aston Villa’s agenda for holding friendly matches during the international break appears to be unexpectedly beneficial for their transfer plan. Following their 3-1 win in the match for Antonio Puerta trophy, Unai Emery is attracted to one player from the opposing side who just featured for the first 45 minutes, Lucien Agoume, as reported in the Spanish media, Orgullo Biri, via Footballfancast.

“His display was enough to impress Emery, with a senior member of the Villa hierarchy subsequently approaching Sevilla to ask about his situation.”

His current situation

Aguome joined Sevilla in the second half of 2023/24 initially on loan from Nerrazurri. He moved permanently in the following season and signed a contract till summer 2028. His price tag is likely to reach £35 million, which is still quite affordable for Aston Villa.

The Lions apparently are not the first potential suitor keeping tabs on him. Manchester United and Arsenal have made their inquiry earlier as well. At the moment, there has not been any official offer on the table yet. However, since Emery himself is pushing the move to sign the former Inter Milan man in the future, his arrival in Villa Park could be anticipated in winter or at least summer 2027, provided he does not sign contract extension with the La Liga side.

How good is Lucien Agoume

Agoume is a versatile defensive midfielder who can operate as central midfielder or even attacking midfielder. His style of play is often compared to Paul Pogba. Prior to signing for Sevilla permanently, he was loaned out by Inter Milan four times, Sevilla included. Spezia and two Ligue 1 outfits, Brest and Troyes, used his service before he was opting to switch sides to Spain.

Since joining the La Liga outfit, Agoume has played 93 times, netting twice and providing seven assists in all competitions. He contributed heavily last season when his team crushed Barcelona 4-1 and Villareal 3-2. The former Sochaux man registered one assists in each game.

The 24-year old midfielder excels at dribbling and long ball delivery beside short passes. Based on the data in FotMob, his rate for successful dribbling this season reaches 66.7 % whereas his accurate long ball is 65.9 %. His successful passes are up to 85.3 %. His winning duel rate is 50.7 %.

In the defensive phase, the Yaounde-born midfielder has made 52 defensive contributions, including 21 tackles, 12 interceptions and two blocking shots. He also has made 17 clearances.

The Clarets and Blue might have already had Joao Gomes, Boubacar Kamara, Lamare Bogarde and Amadou Onana plus Ross Barkley who are capable to play in defensive midfielder and various positions in the second line. Yet, considering Onana’s long term injury, Barkley’s contract ending next season, Villa could definitely include him as the squad player or even more when the congested fixtures begin.
