Aston Villa once again invests on young star before transfer window opens

Aston Villa have just made a move even before the winter transfer window begins by signing young star.

Aston Villa transfer strategy appears to be beyond the regular transfer window. They keep hunting targets and sign them soon if possible, earlier than their rivals. Their latest move on snatching Everton youngster, Jake Doughty.

Here is the statement from Aston Villa academy manager, Mark Harrison, as reported in avfc.co.uk.

“We are delighted that Jake has joined us from Everton. He is a wide attacking player with excellent technical qualities and an ability to create and score goals.

“Jake played a number of times for Everton Under-18s and represented England at Under-16 level. We look forward to seeing how Jake develops over the next few years.”

Who is Jake Doughty?

Doughty is the product of Everton academy who emerges quickly in their youth team. The 16-year-old winger was promoted to Everton U18 side last season and immediately stole the spotlight.

He helped the team finish fourth in the league. Doughty made 17 appearances already, registering seven goals and providing two assists in all competitions. He is known for the left footed winger who can penetrate from the right flank. Such talent is rare and Everton should have integrated him in the first team this season. Instead, it is Villa who snatched him.

Why Villa signs him

Aston Villa’s decision to sign him is not exactly a surprise. In fact, it is already part of their strategic transfer plan.

The Clarets and Blue begin to invest on young players who rises to prominence to be developed in the team continually. Once they are ready and perform consistently in the reserve team, they could be loaned out abroad first or integrated to the first team when their form has been convincing enough to be promoted.

It is not the first time The Lions secured a move of top youngsters for their squad. The likes of Modou Cisse from LASK, Brian Madjo from Metz, Fletcher Boyd from Aberdeen and George Hemmings from Nottingham Forest are only some of them. Three of them have been registered with the first team this season. Even Hemmings was already included in the previous season too.

No wonder if the 19-year old midfielder has been playing regularly. He has been the first choice under Unai Emery while waiting for their new signings get settled.

Madjo is the one who could get a nod next more regularly following his stunning introduction in UEFA Super Cup versus PSG in August. He bagged an equalizer, could have netted a hattrick, should he have been more clinical in his finishing touch and even broke a record as the youngest goalscorer in the competition history. The Einfeild-born forward could even be breaking more record this season.

Meanwhile, Cisse and Boyd might need to wait for their chance first. The former already featured in some games during the pre-season last summer, whereas the latter is still playing with the reserve team.
