Aston Villa have just sealed an important win during the lengthy international break.
Aston Villa continue to work on keeping his team fit during the long international break. They put two friendly games on schedule, versus Southampton and against Sevilla.
After a narrow win behind closed doors over The Saints, Unai Emery’s men picked up another win to help his team stay in form against Sevilla last night, as reported in avfc.co.uk.
“Aston Villa came from behind against Sevilla to collect the Antonio Puerta Trophy with victory at Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán on Friday night.”
Aston Villa began the game by fielding the remaining senior players in the team, who did not get a call-up by their national team. Marco Bizot, Tammy Abraham, Emi Buendia, Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings were included.
The game was even and tight. Both sides traded chances in this game. Bizot made several saves and Villa produced their own too from Abraham and Buendia. The former even managed to find the back of the net but was disallowed.
In the second half, it was Sevilla who broke the deadlock. Isaac Romero’s close range shot in front of the goal could not be denied by Bizot. Then in the 71st minute, Ross Barkley found the equalizer.
Villa eventually managed to make a comeback win as they scored twice afterwards. Garnacho and the academy player Max Jenner netted the winning goals to secure their victory in Spain.
This match highlighted the performance of Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine winger registered another goal in Villa’s friendly matches in this international break. He played 90 minutes in the Sevilla clash.
In the previous game against Southampton, the former Manchester United man also bagged a winning goal. It appears that the Chelsea loanee is ready to get more minutes on the pitch as the league returns next weekend.
Meanwhile, Brian Madjo was also given a chance to play after his injury. The youngster has not hit the pitch since the UEFA Super Cup against PSG in August, which he scored. The 17-year-old forward was subbed on to replace Tammy Abraham in the second half.
It will be interesting if Emery is ready to field Garnacho and Madjo as a starter soon. Handing them more regular minutes than just being a cameo this season should certainly be considered before the season is heading to the clinical stage.
Here are the players involved in the Sevilla match.
Aston Villa: Bizot, Bogarde, Harwood-Bellis, Mings (Torres 46’), Fortes (Bloomfield 46’), Kamara (Wan-Bissaka 46’), Gomes (Jenner 76’), Hemmings (Alysson 66’), Garnacho, Buendía (Barkley 46’), Abraham (Madjo 46’).
Unused subs: Wright, Asemota, Carroll, Burgess, Mulley.
