Juventus are reportedly plotting an ambitious 2027 free-agent strategy built around three experienced internationals: Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic, RB Leipzig left-back David Raum and Milan defender Fikayo Tomori. Nothing has been agreed, and the approach remains at the planning stage rather than an active negotiation.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, all three names sit on Juventus’ wish list because their contracts are set to run down at the end of the season, opening the door to Bosman-style approaches. The Bianconeri are not yet in confirmed talks with any of the trio, and the report stresses this is groundwork being laid many months in advance.
The Bianconeri have shown in recent years that they can prepare future deals well ahead of time, with the free signing of Jonathan David cited as the template Juventus hope to repeat. Missing out on Champions League qualification has tightened the club’s finances, making free-agent recruitment an even higher priority even if it means starting talks far in advance of any actual transfer window.
Tomori’s situation is notable given Frederic Massara’s history with the defender, having brought him to Milan from Chelsea. Tomori was reportedly pushed to the margins of Milan’s project by Ruben Amorim this past summer, only to be welcomed back into the squad after failing to find a new club willing to take him. Kovacic, meanwhile, has found himself marginalised at City following the club’s raft of new arrivals, despite being far from finished as a player at 32. He returns to familiar territory in Serie A, having played for Inter between 2013 and 2015 before moving on to Real Madrid, Chelsea and City from 2023.
Juventus are not alone in their interest in Raum. Manchester United are also reported to be strongly keen on the Leipzig left-back, setting up potential competition for his signature once his contract situation becomes clearer. No rival suitor has been named for either Kovacic or Tomori at this stage.
The primary report gives no transfer fees, wage demands or contract lengths for any of the three, framing the interest purely in terms of expiring deals rather than agreed terms. Juventus’ recent pursuit of free agents from the Premier League and beyond shows this is becoming a consistent recruitment pattern rather than a one-off.
With Juventus reportedly starting the groundwork so far in advance, all three players’ contracts are due to expire at the end of the season. For now, Kovacic, Raum and Tomori remain names on a wish list rather than confirmed incomings.
