Last summer ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup, Aston Villa was proud to have three of their key figures making the cut in England final squad for the tournament. The striker Ollie Watkins, the attacking midfielder, Morgan Rogers and the defender Ezri Konsa were all included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
However, soon after the tournament ended and the summer transfer window opened, all three of them opted to leave Villa Park. Now, the Clarets and Blue no longer have their players representing the Three Lions for England’s upcoming fixtures in UEFA Nations League 2026/27. Only George Hemmings is named for England U20 squad instead of the senior team.

Athersmith was the first Villa man who was capped 12 times from 1892 to 1900. The key figure during the Lions’ golden age in the 1890s bagged three goals for England.
The next ones are Milner, Heskey and Grealish. They were all part of the Three Lions squad in the 2010 FIFA World Cup for Milner and Heskey, whereas Grealish was named in the EURO 2020 squad.
In terms of goal contribution, the current Everton man did better with two assists, which also helped England to reach the final. On the contrary, Milner and Heskey only chipped in one assist, and England crashed out in the round of 16.
Young was capped 15 times for England from 2007 to June 2011. Unfortunately, he was not part of the squad in the major tournament during his stint in Villa Park. The current 40-year old right back registered two goals and four assists as a Villa man in an England shirt.
He was the key man in Villa in the 1920s and 1930s. Walker won the FA Cup in 1920 for The Lions and earned 18 caps and scored nine goals for England from 1920 to 1932.
The current Villa centre-back was part of the England in the group stage of EURO 2020. He was capped 18 times from 2019 to 2023 but did not make the cut for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The versatile attacking midfielder was the Three Lions star in the 1990s. He was capped 22 times as a Villa man from 1989 to 1991. Platt registered seven of his 27 goals for England in that period, including three goals in the 1990 FIFA World Cup when he stole the spotlight.
Vassell was called up regularly for England during his spell with The Lions. He was named in the squad for two major tournaments, the 2002 FIFA World Cup and EURO 2004. The 24-year-old versatile attacking midfielder rose to prominence during his stint with Villa. He made his debut in November 2024 against Greece. Rogers has always been named in Three Lions squad ever since. The former Middlesbrough man has earned 22 caps, registering one goal and three assists so far, two of which were in 2026 FIFA World Cup against Norway and Argentina in the quarterfinal and semifinal.
The current Al-Hilal man earned his 24th cap in the third-place play-off in 2026 FIFA World Cup. He made his debut in 2021 and has netted seven times plus set up two goals. Watkins was part of the England squad in EURO 2024.
The centre back has appeared 28 times for England since his debut in March 2024. He has netted twice and provided one assist in the last two appearances with the Three Lions. Konsa was the only Aston Villa man who featured in each and every England games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The versatile midfielder received an England call-up as an Aston Villa player from 2000 to 2009. Barry chipped in two goals and three assists in 29 games during that period but never got a nod to the pitch when he was included in the EURO 2000 squad.
The former England boss still holds the record of Aston Villa man with the most caps with the Three Lions. Southgate was capped 42 times, netting one goal from 1995 to 2001. The ex-centre back was part of the England squad in EURO 1996 and 2000, plus the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
