Aston Villa are set to face a real test after the international break, which would need all players in the squad to stay in form.
Aston Villa are going through the current international break with the ongoing training for the players who do not receive any call up from their national team. They also have two friendly matches on schedule during the break. Villa are set to face off Southampton and Sevilla on October 2 for the Antonio Puerta trophy.
Unfortunately, Unai Emery and his staff would be restless while waiting for the update from some of their key men. One of them is Zion Suzuki. He has reportedly suffered a rib injury. They have some players working on the recovery after their injury such as Pau Torres, Ian Maatsen, Alysson, Brian Madjo, Leon Goretzka and Marco Bizot.
Should Suzuki and Bizot be unable to recover in time or worse, picking up another injury or experiencing fatigue, Villa would have to be dealing with goalkeeper crisis while at the same time, a tough test for them is underway after the international break as reported in Birmingham mail.

Villa are back on October 10 for the Premier League. There are five league games, three matches in the Champions League and one fixture in the Carabao Cup.

For Unai Emery’s men, their toughest week is actually the first one and the last one of the period. In the first week, The Lions would have to take on Brentford. Keith Andrews’ men have been unbeaten this season, sitting fourth and holding a better head-to-head record against Villa last season. The Bees were able to defeat Villa in all three encounters in the 2025/26. They were two meetings in the league and one duel in the Carabao Cup.
Four days later, John McGinn and Co will be travelling to Istanbul to face off the star-studded Fenerbahce with Ederson, Nathan Ake, Mason Greenwood and N’Golo Kante in the squad. They still have the potential to stumble and disrupt Villa’s positive trend.
Then, back in England, Villa is set to pay a visit to St James’ Park and take on Newcastle. The Magpies are also in the rebuilding phase just like The Clarets and Blue. Mathias Jaissle’s side has produced mixed results so far but playing at Tyneside is always challenging.
Finally, in early November, Aston Villa would have to deal with two difficult away matches against the most stunning team this season, Barcelona at Camp Nou. Five days later, Manchester United are already waiting in Old Trafford.
