Aston Villa reignite their interest on former Juventus man

Aston Villa seem to be reigniting their interest in the ex-Juventus man who has returned to his home soil.

Aston Villa’s winless run in the Premier League continues, which begins to concern the fans, and perhaps the club silently. The woeful form of their attacking lines, especially the frontman in the last outings, in which none of them was able to create any single shots. Only the youngster substitute Alysson and Ibrahim Mbaye, managed to strike one, including one on target.

Should their forwards fail to improve their performance at the expected level, especially Tammy Abraham, who was on the verge of being loaned out to Ipswich Town last summer, Villa could be open to sign a new frontman in January.

According to the report in BolaVip, The Lions are back in the race for the ex-Juventus striker who was once under their radar before, Kaio Jorge.

Aston Villa are one of several European clubs keeping an eye on the 24-year-old ahead of the January window.

His current situation

Kaio Jorge has been in Cruzeiro since 2024. He left Italian giant, Juventus after failing to impress them, even after a loan spell in Serie A minnow, Frosinone.

He already extended his contract this year with the expiry date in December 2030. Jorge’s potential asking price is about £ 38.5 million.

As for his potential suitors, Villa is definitely not the only one who gained interest to sign him. West Ham previously made an approach to Cruzeiro but it was turned down.

Meanwhile, for the January transfer window, the Clarets and Blue will be in a race with AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Fiorentina and Benfica. Bayern Munich was keen on him too before but there is no confirmation if they are still in the race to secure his signature.

The former Santos man was once already under Villa’s radar last year before they signed for Alysson Edward. Their scout was watching the match between Cruzeiro and Gremio, which featured both Alysson and Kaio. So, his data might still be kept in Villa’s scouting report.

Is it a good move for Aston Villa?

Kaio seems to be revitalizing his career well in Cruzeiro. He has notched up 50 goals and set up 13 in 109 games. This season, he has netted 17 goals and provided two assists in 40 games. Last season, he was the club’s top scorer too, making him a valuable target to sign in the midst of the potential attacking crisis.

Based on the data in FotMob, his form in the league this season is fairly impressive. His xG is 7.90 while his xA is 0.96. His successful pass rate is 80.7 % while his successful crosses are only 22.2 % and his accurate long ball is 76.2 %.

The 24-year old forward has created 40 shots in the league but only 13 of them were on target and scored seven. It means that he can be less clinical or effective in his finishing touch than expected.

His successful dribbles is 34.5 %, whereas his winning duel rate is 42.2 %. Kaio has done well defensively too with 14 defensive contributions, including 6 clearances, four interceptions and four tackles.

Kaio has the potential to be the established striker in Europe if he can be more clinical in his attempts and probably improve his acceleration to penetrate the backline well. If he could learn from his failure in Italy, then Villa should be signing him soon before his price tag is rising.
