The finish added to a remarkable header tally: since the start of the 2022/23 season, no player in Europe’s top five leagues has scored more headed goals than Bremer, according to Opta.
Only Virgil van Dijk has matched the Brazilian’s output over that span, with both defenders credited with 11 headed goals apiece. It is a notable total and places Bremer’s recent contribution in the 2022/23-to-present period rather than across a longer career sample.
The statistic reinforces the extent to which Juventus rely on Bremer in front of their own goal and at the opposite end of the pitch. It follows a summer in which he was repeatedly linked with moves away from the club, including links to Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham in the Premier League, Bayern in Germany and Turkish champions Galatasaray.
A few weeks ago, Bremer was also reportedly the subject of interest from Inter. Transfermarkt values the 29-year-old at €35 million, while he has three years remaining on his Juventus contract, which carries a gross annual salary of €9.26 million.
With deadline day still to come, Juventus will hope that no late offer arrives to disrupt their plans. Bremer’s ability to contribute with headers at one end while playing a key role at the other helps explain why the club will want to keep its squad intact as the market closes.
