Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Roma midfielder Manu Koné as the club pushes to complete a significant transfer before the window slams shut.

The France international has quickly emerged as one of manager Xabi Alonso’s top priorities on what has become an increasingly frantic deadline day at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Koné has gathered pace following complications with their alternative move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, forcing the club to shift targets rapidly.

According to FootballTransfers, personal terms between Koné and Chelsea have now been agreed, with the focus now turning to the club-to-club negotiations with Roma.

Roma remain reluctant to part with such an important player this late in the window, meaning Chelsea face a tough task convincing the Serie A club to sanction any sale.

The 25-year-old was a key figure at Roma last season, making 37 appearances across all competitions and scoring twice to cement his place as a first-team regular.

Koné’s potential arrival is directly linked to the expected departure of Enzo Fernandez, who is edging closer to completing a move to Manchester City.

Koné would not be a like-for-like replacement for Fernandez, and that quality could actually make the transfer a genuinely interesting piece of squad-building for Alonso.

Where Fernandez brings a refined passing range and control of possession, Koné offers greater athleticism, ball-carrying ability, and defensive intensity across midfield.

Paired alongside Moises Caicedo, the Frenchman could give Chelsea an extremely powerful central partnership capable of winning the ball and driving forward at speed.

If Chelsea secure a substantial fee for Fernandez and bring in Koné for considerably less, Alonso would have room to reinvest the surplus into further squad improvements elsewhere.

The critical challenge now is time, as agreeing personal terms is only one part of the puzzle and convincing Roma to sell with hours remaining is considerably harder.

Chelsea cannot afford to approve Fernandez’s departure without first ensuring their replacement deal with Roma can be completed before the deadline passes.
