Two Aston Villa stars could switch sides to Dutch giant

Aston Villa are likely to lose two more players who could be heading to a Dutch giant this summer.

Aston Villa’s transfer business might be accelerating as they are in dire need of bolstering the squad at the back and upfront. This has become crucial following the departure of Ezri Konsa and potentially another one or even two departures before deadline day.

The number of players heading for the exits also appears to be increasing. Two Aston Villa men who are expected to leave Villa Park have been linked with a move to the Dutch side this summer. They could be completing their moves to Ajax Amsterdam, who also managed to sign one of Aston Villa’s targets, Julian Brandt, this summer. So, who are those two figures?

Leon Bailey

The Jamaican winger has been working on his way out of Villa Park since last summer. He had a chance to prove his worth in Italy by joining Gian Piero Gasperini’s AS Roma, but he failed to play regularly. Bailey was hit by injuries and fitness issues, which saw him spend more time on the bench than on the pitch.

Thus, he was recalled to the West Midlands for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. The former Bayer Leverkusen man only became a squad player during Villa’s campaign, contributing one goal and one assist in 11 games.

Earlier this summer, Bailey was already linked with a move to newly promoted side Hull City. The player was even due to undergo a medical. However, the move fell through. Talks between the two clubs had begun before collapsing at the last minute. It was believed that Bailey’s high salary demands and the difference in their valuations kept negotiations going for far too long. The Tigers eventually pulled the plug.

Now, Ajax Amsterdam are considering signing the Jamaican winger. According to a report in Sportwitness, it is not exactly their first time expressing interest in him.

“A year ago, the Eredivisie side didn’t capitalise on the opportunity to secure Leon Bailey’s services.”

It remains to be seen whether Ajax will prioritise him as Mika Godts’ replacement. A loan deal could be more likely than a permanent transfer, while a cut-price fee could also be on the table for the Dutch side.

Lamare Bogarde

Another name who can still leave Villa Park this summer is the youngster, Lamare Bogarde. He could be an alternative for Ajax which are prioritizing Lutsharel Geertruida.

The wing back was playing regularly for Sunderland last summer but the Black Cats did not activate the option to buy due to his parent club’s financial demand. Therefore, Geertruida is expected to return to RB Leipzig.

Should Ajax face the similar situation, then turning to Bogarde can be a solution. He can be a right back and midfielder plus Ajax could be the right place for him to build his confidence, play more regularly and develop his game while playing at the top level but with less intensity as the Premier League.

So far, there has yet to be any formal bid for either of them but such could change in the next few days ahead of the deadline day.
