Aston Villa boss hints his team ‘working more than normal’ this summer

Aston Villa boss has mentioned that his team had been working more than normal during the summer transfer window to rebuild the squad after losing their stars.

This current transfer window has been quite a busy one compared to last summer. Aston Villa have made seven new signings compared to only three in the summer 2025. Yet, they have sold quite a number of players too, including their key men Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers, Lucas Digne, Ezri Konsa and probably soon Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins.

Aston Villa boss, Unai Emery, is aware of the fans’ concern, how massive exodus and big changes the team is currently going through. He shared his view to the press on how Villa has been doing this summer in preparing the team, as reported in Birmingham mail.

“We are working intelligently. We are working more than normal in the transfer window, and we are doing things, being responsible, and we are doing things not losing our ambition.”

Emery’s constant concern

Feeling worried at the start of everything is normal. In fact, he might be feeling the same too this season, with all this changes.

“I am worried. Yes. I am positive. Yes, how we are going to start the season in the ambition we can have. The same as last year when I was worried. The same as two years ago when I was worried. The same like when I arrived here, I was worried. And then it’s time to work.”

For the Spaniard, he appears to be constantly concerned with his team at the beginning of the season, just like what he was before.

“I was worried three years and a half ago when I arrived here. We were playing the first match at Manchester United at home. I was so, so worried.

“I was worried two years ago. I was worried last year when we started playing Newcastle at home. We drew. We were finishing the transfer window, and we didn’t work like we wanted in the transfer window. And in the last moment, we closed it like we could.

“I was worried when we played five matches in the Premier League and we didn’t win. I was worried, and I am worried now. Of course, I am worried, like in the last three years I was worried.

Yet, he always proved that The Lions are always on course and have been making progress. They even ended their 30-year title drought last year.

Emery on Emiliano Martinez’s situation

Meanwhile, regarding the potential issue this season on their goalkeeping unit, Emery seems to be quite relaxed about it, although the Argentine has confirmed his request to move on. In fact, he appears to be open on sharing tasks or double first goalkeeper setup if Martinez’s move this summer could not materialize again.

“We can share both. This scenario is a bad scenario? Not. We have two excellent keepers. We have signed Suzuki not for the future, but for now. He has shown his capacity and that he can play at our level.

“Martinez transmitted to us the possibility to have another challenge in his career, not just now and even last year, and he was thinking in case he had a possibility to change his challenges, but he stayed and performed fantastic.

“This year, again, he transmitted to us for a new challenge, and we signed Suzuki to replace him. But the scenario we have is that we have two great goalkeepers.

“Bizot as well, when we needed him, he responded fantastically. My ideal scenario with the goalkeeper is really fantastic, but maybe we can still change something.”
