Aston Villa defender is set to leave Villa Park this summer following the arrival of the new signing.
Aston Villa transfer business this summer has been busier than before. After losing some key men, they also managed to secure their fourth and fifth signings. The likes of Matteo Ruggeri and Aaron Wan Bissaka have just arrived to bolster their defense. They are set to provide competition for their current wing backs, Matty Cash and Ian Maatsen.
Such definitely potentially costs the chance for their youngster, Kosta Nedeljkovic to feature more regularly. With a doubtful future in Villa Park, Unai Emery’s men eventually decided to let the Serbian international switch sides.
According to the report in Birmingham mail, Villa seems to have resolved it by reaching agreement with the Scottish Premiership giant.
“Glasgow Rangers are expected to sign Aston Villa defender Kosta Nedeljkovic on loan with an obligation to buy.”
Nedeljkovic was initially expected to be Matty Cash’s deputy in the right back position. He featured regularly during the pre-season.
Unfortunately, the arrival of Wan Bissaka pushes him to the exit. The Gers’ offer comes at the right time. They have just lost James Tavernier whose contract expires. He was even linked to a move to Villa earlier this summer.
In Glasgow, the Serbian international can get more regular minutes and build up his confidence and improve his form.
The former Red Star Belgrade man agrees on a loan deal worth £ 4 million with an obligation to buy later if he plays for a certain number of appearances.
For the right back who joined Villa in January 2024, this is his third loan spell since joining The West Midlands side. His previous one was with RB Leipzig for two seasons in a row. The Bundesliga outfit had an option to buy him twice for £10-12 million but they passed it on.
The 20-year-old full back might not be the last one who heads for the exit. There are likely to be more names departing from Bodymoor Heath.
The most prominent one is probably Emiliano Martinez, following Villa’s agreement to secure Zion Suzuki’s move. Initially, the Argentine already agreed to stay after his potential suitor, Juventus, was unable to meet Villa’s price tag on him.
However, The Lions do not seem to have patience to sign his long-term successor when the opportunity was laid bare after the Japanese shot stopper’s move to PSG was cancelled. Such leave the future of the 33-year-old goalie in doubt.
Another one might be Lamare Bogarde. The Dutch youngster has gained interest from Ajax Amsterdam lately. It could materialise if the Eredivisie giants submit the offer.
And the most updated one is Ollie Watkins who has been linked to Al Hilal’s move. The England international has even reportedly agreed on personal terms but the move might depend on other issues, especially Karim Benzema’s request for contract termination.
