Aston Villa are currently making an approach to sign the Bundesliga top scorer to provide the quality in their squad depth.
Aston Villa transfer business is likely to get busier with two weeks left. After finalizing the deal with Matteo Ruggeri and Zion Suzuki. They are also reportedly in the middle of the negotiation to land Aaron Wan Bissaka and Joao Palhinha.
Beside them, Villa do not appear to stop just yet. Their next target is the frontman who seems to have an uncertain future with his current club. AC Milan’s Christopher Nkunku has been in limbo with the arrival of the new boss, Ruben Armorim. The Portuguese boss does not see him as a fit figure for his system.
According to the report in Sport Witness, Villa’s link with the Bundesliga top scorer in the 2022/23 season is no longer a rumor.
“Aston Villa have made enquiries for the attacker’s signature. They have spoken to Nkunku’s entourage and held initial discussions with Milan too.”
Nkunku has just moved to AC Milan in 2025 and signed a five-year contract with Rossoneri. Considering his doubtful future in San Siro, Milan is open to release him with around £ 30 million transfer fee, either with permanent sale or loan scheme with an obligation or option to buy.
At the moment, Aston Villa, who expressed their interest in signing him last summer, are not the only club who have made the approach to the players’ camp Newcastle United have done the same hoping to lure him back to England after his unsuccessful spell in Chelsea. There has been interest from his former side, RB Leipzig, then Borussia Dortmund and AS Roma.
His arrival could be a fine addition to the squad. Nkunku would provide a competition for Tammy Abraham and Alejandro Garnacho or even a squad player as well as Emi Buendia‘s deputy.
The 28-year-old forward is, as a matter of fact, versatile figure, which fits best in Emery’s tactical demand. However, his physical fitness has been seen as his weakness. Nkunku has been prone to injury since leaving Bundesliga.
Prior to his move to England, he was a prolific goalscorer. Yet, since leaving Germany, he has taken a knock several times, unable to thrive in the Premier League with more intense and higher physical demands for pressing and duels.
While playing for the Blues, he suffered knee injury, hamstring injury and hip injury in his first season alone. Meanwhile, in Milan, he had ankle problems and foot injury.
During his two-year stint in London, Nkunku only scored 18 goals and made five assists in 62 games in all competitions. That is less than his goalscoring record in the 2022/23 alone, when he netted 23 goals and provided nine assists.
Meanwhile, last season in Milan, the Frenchman registered even less, just eight goals and three assists in 35 matches. Thus, should Villa opt to pursue him, it would be a big gamble. Emery’s side would have to improve his physical condition. Otherwise, the forward who can operate on both flanks and as a number 10 role would only be another wasted signing.
