Le Parisien clinched their first title last season when they beat Tottenham on penalties. It was their first win in two chances. PSG’s first shot was in 1996 when they had to take on Marcelo Lippi’s Juventus. They were heavily beaten in both legs.
On the contrary, Villa managed to pick up a win in their first attempt. Back in 1983, they crushed Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate. They suffered a narrow loss on the road before bouncing back through extra time to deny the Catalan giant.
However, there is one concerning thing about The Lions ahead of this clash. It is Unai Emery’s negative record in this duel. He has never lifted a single trophy despite having three attempts before. Interestingly, one of them was against Luis Enrique’s team back in 2015. Both managers will be squaring off again this week. It will be interesting which side would triumph in this edition.
The UEFA Super Cup between PSG and Aston Villa will be held at 8 pm on Wednesday, August 12. The encounter takes place in Red Bull Arena Stadium, Salzburg, which is also the home turf of RB Salzburg.
