Juventus could beat rival suitors to Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi by proposing Teun Koopmeiners as part of the package, with both Premier League and Turkish clubs currently hesitant to move for the Dutchman.
The structure was outlined by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which reports that Bologna are reluctant to accept a straight player exchange but could soften that stance if Koopmeiners is the name involved.
Juventus’ interest in the Colombia international is no secret. His €28m release clause has now expired, and Bologna’s asking price sits around €25m. The Rossoblu owe Genk 20 per cent of any eventual sale fee from Lucumi’s original move, which is why they have shown no intention of lowering their demands despite the number of clubs circling.
A key figure in any resolution is Bologna director Gigi Sartori, who was at Atalanta when Koopmeiners first arrived in Serie A. That relationship could prove important if Juventus consider loaning Koopmeiners out.
The midfielder had been hoping for a move to the Premier League, but no concrete offer has materialised there, and he appears uninterested in options from the Turkish Super Lig.
According to the report, Koopmeiners’ salary is worth €4.5m. Bologna are seeking around €20m for Lucumi and must give Genk 20 per cent of any sale fee. The report presents a loan with Juventus covering Koopmeiners’ wages as a way to offset the money Bologna would pass on to the Belgian club.
Fabio Miretti and defender Juan Cabal have also been floated as possible names Juventus could include from Turin, though Koopmeiners now appears to represent the more creative route to unlocking a deal.
