Aston Villa have been eyeing another target in the Italian top flight, who is also a Dutch international, for their summer transfer.
Aston Villa transfer plan has identified another target this summer. Juventus man, Teun Koopmeiners has been on Villa’s radar lately. He is suddenly facing the prospect of falling down the pecking order behind a surprising figure, the former Aston Villa man who was on loan at Villa Park last season, Douglas Luiz.
According to a report in Footballfancast, The Lions are not the only club monitoring his situation.
“Aston Villa are among the clubs keen on star Koopmeiners, and the Serie A giants are prepared to listen to offers for the midfielder.”
Koopmeiners joined La Vecchia Signora from Atalanta in the 2024/25 season for a transfer fee of up to £47.2 million. His contract runs until the summer of 2029.
Initially, the 28-year-old versatile midfielder was a regular starter under Thiago Motta. Yet, following the managerial change in Turin, he is no longer a first-choice player. In fact, the return of Douglas Luiz has pushed him down the pecking order, as Juventus’ current boss, Luciano Spalletti, prefers the Brazilian midfielder despite the fact that his loan spell at Villa Park was not considered successful.
Such a situation has led to his emergence on the transfer market, and Villa are one of the potential suitors. They will be in a tussle with Manchester United, who are also in a rebuilding phase ahead of the upcoming season under Michael Carrick.
Juventus are reportedly willing to sanction his move for £26 million on a permanent deal. A loan move with an obligation to buy is also on the cards, as he still has three years remaining on his contract. The Clarets and Blue should make a move immediately since United is seemingly prioritising the move for Real Madrid man, Eduard Camavinga.
The Dutch international has made 89 appearances for Juventus, contributing seven goals and four assists in all competitions. However, last season he failed to register a single goal or assist in 33 Serie A appearances.
Based on data from FotMob, his xG stood at 1.50, while his xA was 1.35. His pass completion rate was 90.7%, while his accurate long-ball percentage was 56.9%. Koopmeiners also posted a respectable dribble success rate of 55.6%, while winning 50.6% of his duels. His defensive contribution was solid as well, recording 33 tackles, 18 interceptions, seven blocked shots, and 39 clearances.
The former Atalanta man can operate as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder, attacking midfielder, right winger, or even as a centre-back, a role he filled on occasions in the 2025/26 campaign. He will hope that a move to England can revive both his career and his form, just as he enjoyed during his spell with La Dea, where he played an instrumental role in their triumphant 2023/24 Europa League campaign.
Should Villa succeed in signing him, Villa would have the perfect replacement for Tielemans. The Dutchman is even better than the Belgian due to his versatility as a defender too, something which Tielemans were not capable of.
