Jackson Koivun’s “Hello, world!” win at the 3M Open vaulted him onto the FedEx Cup Playoffs bubble with two weeks to play. Koivun, who held off World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in Minnesota, now sits at No. 70 in the standings with two weeks to play before the first playoff event in Memphis.
While Koivun, who will be back in action at this week’s Rocket Classic, is currently on the right side of the bubble, several other popular names find themselves on the outside looking in with the clock ticking. Others find themselves inside the top 70 but with work to do to get to the BMW Championship and ensure their spot in the Signature Events in 2027. With the PGA Tour heading to a two-tier system in 2028 and the eligibility criteria for the 2028 Championship Series (Track 1) being determined before the 2027 season, having access to the biggest events is vital to getting a leg up in the race to secure a spot in the Championship Series in 2028.
Here are some of the big names currently on the FedEx Cup Playoff bubble entering the final two weeks of the regular season.
These five players all are outside the top 70 heading into the Rocket Classic.
Currently at No. 84, Koepka hasn’t played a lot since withdrawing from the RBC Canadian Open with a wrist injury. He missed the cut at the U.S. Open and the Scottish Open before posting a T28 at the Open. His best finish of the year is a T9 at the Cognizant Classic in March.
He ranks 29th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained, is eighth in approach and 12th off the tee. But he is 115th in putting, which is why he has been unable to vault up the standings in his first year back from LIV.
Koepka is in the field this week in Detroit.
It has been a tough year for Finau, who has just one top 10 on the season, which came at the CJ Cup and the Byron Nelson. But Finau has gone CUT-T29-T40-T55-T58-CUT since and is now 87th in the standings with two weeks to play.
Finau ranks outside the Top 100 in total Strokes Gained (107), Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (105) and Strokes Gained: Approach (121). The only category that he is positive in is Strokes Gained: Around the Green, where he ranks 35th (0.221).
He will play this week in Detroit after missing the cut at the 3M.
Jason Day opened the season with a runner-up finish at The American Express and posted a T6 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March, but he hasn’t finished higher than 38th since a T12 at the Masters.
Day missed the cut at the Open and withdrew from the 3M and this week’s Rocket Classic with a back injury. He is 74th in the standings.
With his loss as Ryder Cup captain still weighing on his mind, Bradley hasn’t played up to his standard in 2026. He has just two top-15 finishes and has yet to post a top 10. He is 76th in the FedEx Cup with two weeks to go and will play this week in Detroit.
Horschel’s return after the hip surgery he underwent last year has been filled with rocky golf.
Outside of a T6 at the Zurich Classic, Horschel’s best finish is a T13, which he posted at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and last week’s 3M Open. Horschel sits at 102 in the standings with the end of the season nearing.

Spieth has played consistently erratic golf in 2026. He has made 16 of 19 cuts and has eight top 25s but has failed to post a top 10 and sits at 55 entering this week’s event in Detroit.
Spieth ranks 84th in Strokes Gained: Approach this year, which has led to some poor rounds that have submarined his chances to contend. Sprinkle in a mediocre putter (52nd on Tour) and you get a season that will have Spieth fighting to get inside the top 50 and make the BMW Championship as he tries to recapture his former self.
Another big name who has had a subpar season. Lowry opened the year with a T8 at Pebble Beach and then finished runner-up at the Cognizant after a late meltdown cost him the title. But since then, Lowry hasn’t finished better than T22 and he ranks 57th in the FedEx Cup standings. He will not play this week in Detroit.
Currently the top-50 bubble boy, Homa posted a top 10 at the Masters and finished runner-up to Chris Gotterup at the John Deere. But he has gone T39-T28-CUT in the three tournaments since. While he’s in a good spot to play in Memphis, he’ll need to play good golf to get to the BMW and avoid having to rely on sponsor invites to the Signature Events in 2027. Homa is not playing this week in Detroit.
It has been a scratchy year for the Ryder Cupper. He finished T4 at the RBC Heritage, but hasn’t finished better than T18 since. He has missed three of his last four cuts and sits at No. 48 with two weeks to play. He will tee it up this week.
Golf’s next big thing held off Scottie Scheffler to win the 3M Open in just his third start as a professional. That win in Minnesota launched Koivun from the triple digits to No. 70, placing him firmly on the playoff bubble.
Koivun is back in action this week, and another strong showing should secure his spot in Memphis and have him looking toward the top-50 bubble at the BMW.
