Aston Villa have been eyeing two unwanted Chelsea players following the arrival of Xabi Alonso this summer in their transfer business.
Aston Villa transfer plan to revamp the squad continues, and they still have unfinished business with Chelsea. After the sale of Morgan Rogers for a record transfer fee for a British player, followed shortly by Villa completing the loan signing of Alejandro Garnacho, the Blues remain on the club’s radar because of their bomb squad.
According to a report in TeamTalk, Aston Villa have been monitoring two players who have become surplus to requirements.
“Aston Villa have enquired about Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi as they assess defensive reinforcements.”
Disasi is a quality defender who was captain at Monaco before leaving for Chelsea. The Blues paid £38.8 million for him in the summer of 2023 and expected him to be part of the squad being built under the new owner, Todd Boehly.
His first season was a solid one under Mauricio Pochettino. He played regularly in the first team and helped Chelsea reach the EFL Cup final. He registered three goals in 44 games in all competitions.
However, he was no longer a first-choice player after Enzo Maresca arrived in the dugout. Disasi eventually lost his place entirely. He was loaned to Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024/25 season, making 10 appearances for the Lions.
When he returned to Stamford Bridge last season, he was frozen out of the squad alongside Raheem Sterling. The 28-year-old centre-back had to wait until the winter transfer window to complete a loan move to West Ham.
The French international managed to revive his form by playing in 17 games for the Hammers and scoring once in the FA Cup. Signing him would be an advantage for Aston Villa transfer plan, as he has already worked under Emery before, plus he could be snatched on fairly low fee.
Badiashile arrived at Stamford Bridge earlier than Disasi. He signed for the Blues in January 2023 for a £35 million transfer fee and played regularly before suffering a series of injuries.
The 25-year-old centre-back has made only 71 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions since then, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
The Monaco academy graduate has never been frozen out of the squad, but he has frequently been unavailable due to injuries and fitness issues. In fact, he has been injury prone. Since moving to Chelsea, the defender, who has only two international caps, has suffered eight injuries and missed a total of 60 matches.
With such an extensive injury history, signing him would be quite risky for Aston Villa. Badiashile could be a fine addition to the squad, but Emery should carefully consider his fitness record. It remains to be seen whether any deal can be completed due to the 45-day transfer regulation between the two clubs.
