Roma’s Double Pursuit Of Alejandro Garnacho And Diego Moreira Takes Unexpected New Direction

Roma are exploring two separate attacking deals connected to the BlueCo ownership network, with very different financial structures involved in each potential move.

The Italian club are interested in both Alejandro Garnacho, currently at Chelsea, and Diego Moreira, who is based at Strasbourg and represents a younger, more versatile option.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma want Garnacho and are also monitoring Moreira, though the two deals would require entirely separate approaches and negotiations.

Roma would reportedly prefer to bring Garnacho in on a paid loan arrangement that contains an option to buy at the end of the agreement.

Chelsea’s stance on that structure is proving to be the biggest stumbling block, with the Blues only willing to sanction a permanent departure for the 21-year-old winger.

talkSPORT reports that Chelsea value Garnacho at approximately £42.5m, a figure that reflects their insistence on a clean and straightforward permanent sale.

Garnacho scored eight goals and registered four assists across 43 appearances during his first Chelsea season, though the club are now willing to move him on.

Roma’s interest in Moreira takes a different shape entirely, with Football Italia reporting the club could offer around €35m plus bonuses and a ten per cent sell-on clause.

Strasbourg are believed to want closer to €40m for the Belgian, who can operate as a winger, wing-back, or midfielder, offering considerable tactical flexibility to any buying club.

Chelsea also retain a buy-back clause on Moreira, meaning they could influence his future regardless of whether Roma and Strasbourg reach an agreement on a fee.

The gap between Strasbourg’s asking price and Roma’s opening proposal means this deal is far from guaranteed to reach a conclusion in the coming weeks.

Chelsea’s position on both players could ultimately determine whether either negotiation moves forward into a more advanced stage this summer.

Selling Garnacho on a permanent basis would suit Chelsea’s ongoing squad rebuild, while resolving his situation early would prevent any drawn-out unwanted-player narrative developing during pre-season.

Roma face a delicate balancing act as they attempt to strengthen their attack without overpaying in what remains a complicated dual-transfer situation.
