Aston Villa could miss out top transfer target this summer

Aston Villa could miss out on one of their top transfer targets this summer, should they not make an immediate move.

Aston Villa have yet to make a new signing, but they are likely to miss out on another top target following the confirmed moves of Artur Atta to Fiorentina and Karim Adeyemi to Barcelona. The arrival of the Germany international could give Villa the chance to sign Ferran Torres soon. They need to hold talks immediately before it is too late.

According to Fabrizio Romano, as reported by CaughtOffside, the forward faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou and all options are currently on the table.

“The agents of Ferran Torres are talking to clubs. That’s something they decided to do before deciding on staying at Barcelona, signing a new contract or not.”

His contract situation

Torres is currently still at the World Cup and has yet to make any decision regarding his future. He is likely to decide after the tournament.

The 26-year-old forward has not always been a starter, but under Hansi Flick, his goalscoring record has improved. He has become the reliable deputy to Robert Lewandowski. Whenever the Poland frontman has not been at his best, Torres has often stepped up and taken over the number nine role.

Last season, for example, he bagged 21 goals and three assists, his best tally at Camp Nou. The former Manchester City man was given more opportunities due to Lewandowski’s inconsistent form and gradually declining clinical finishing.

His fine form has attracted other clubs. The Lions are in the race with Tottenham and PSG to sign him. The Catalan side are open to selling him for £29.8 million as his contract expires in the summer of 2027. However, Torres is still considering staying if Barcelona’s contract extension offer is good enough for him.

Would he choose Aston Villa?

With growing uncertainty over his future at the Catalan giants following Karim Adeyemi’s arrival after Anthony Gordon, plus the possible additions of Marcus Rashford or even Julian Alvarez later, Torres’ next club will certainly need to guarantee him regular playing time.

The Clarets and Blue, which has been keeping tabs on him for a while, are definitely an ideal destination for him. Villa are competing at the highest level, with Champions League on schedule. Torres can add dynamism to the attack due to his versatility, being capable of playing on either wing.

The forward, who has earned 63 international caps, also has Premier League experience. He played for Manchester City from 2020 to 2022, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists in 43 games. The Spanish international is a perfect fit for Unai Emery‘s side.

The real threat comes from PSG, not Spurs, who are not even competing in Europe next season. Le Parisien can offer a greater guarantee of trophies, at least domestically. They are also the reigning Champions League winners and still have Luis Enrique in charge. A reunion with his former national team manager is certainly something Torres will consider, as the pair worked together with Spain from 2020 to 2022.
