As someone who has lost or misplaced more rangefinders than I can count, I’ve learned that an extra one always comes in handy. So when I recently stumbled upon the Bushnell Tour V7 Shift — a generous gift from my friends on the GOLF gear team — I was psyched to put it in play.
I won’t bore you with too many details — there are a million rangefinders out there that provide somewhat-accurate distances to flags — but the Tour V7 Shift did have some qualities I loved.
The display is sleek and easy to read and it uses a “slope-first technology,” which takes out the guessing and prominently displays the yardage you actually need to care about. Playing with the slope enabled is extremely handy for recreational players. And even though the USGA says you technically shouldn’t use the slope for scores you enter for a handicap, it’s a great tool for weekend golfers and those who don’t take their rounds too seriously. (There is even a feature that can offer you club recommendations, which I didn’t use but you can certainly try.)
Other minor details I love: the battery life, magnification and the ease in which you can lock on to a target. If you want to splurge on a rangefinder, this one comes highly recommended.
