Aston Villa is aiming to sign one of the rising stars in the 2026 FIFA World Cup but does not play in Europe.
Aston Villa transfer business will be impacted by the UEFA fine on breaching the financial rules for the second time in a row. Albeit its relatively low amount, considering their efforts to comply with the regulation in the past two seasons, the transfer plan would be unlikely to involve big signings with huge transfer fees or so.
Therefore they are now exploring new targets from outside Europe but has been relatively in the spotlight in this year’s World Cup. According to the report in El Telelgrafo, Villa has been making an early stage move.
“Aston Villa , a Premier League team from England , made the first approach for Ecuadorian midfielder Pedro Vite. The initial step was to inquire about the contractual terms and Pumas’ financial interest.”
Vite has a contract with UNAM till 2029 so the Mexican side is likely to be in control of the negotiation plus they also value the Ecuadorian international highly. Nevertheless, his price tag is estimated only £9 million, so it would not be a problem for The Lions at all to meet.
Their potential rival in the race is only the Argentina side, Racing Club. It is believed Vite might not return to South America again and consider moving to Europe. Villa is an ideal club for the 24-year old midfielder to develop himself as it offers a chance to compete at the top level, including in the UEFA Champions League.
It has been reported that Villa is likely to begin their negotiation after Ecuador’s exit at the world cup. The Clarets and Blue are preparing to submit the official bid, which could be done in the near future.
Pedro Vite featured in all four Ecuador games at the world cup for the whole 90 minutes. He has been the key man in Sebastian Beccacece’s side after Copa America 2024. In the world cup, he even contributed one assist for the first goal when Ecuador stunned Germany in a 2-1 victory, which helped his nation sealed one berth in the knockout stage.
In that game based on the data from Whoscored.com, he produced fine form. Beside an assist, he made one key pass, nine tackles, two interceptions, one clearance, one cross and, 11 long balls with five of them hitting accurate target and one through ball.
The current Pumas UNAM side joined the Mexican side in 2025 from Vancouver Whitecaps. Since then, he has made 43 appearances for his club, netting four times and setting up twice.
Vite is a versatile midfielder too. He can be deployed as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder, attacking midfielder, even playing wide on the right flanks and second striker. The midfielder with 21 international caps and registered three assists so far could be pushed for a more attacking role, if Morgan Rogers leaves this summer. He could be the ideal utility man too when Unai Emery rotates the squad.
