Arsenal officials are reportedly set to hold talks to determine their next move in the pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The Gunners appear to have had an initial approach rejected, with the first verbal offer failing to meet Newcastle’s valuation of the Brazilian midfielder.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Arsenal made a proposal through intermediaries that came in below £60m, which was swiftly turned down by the Magpies.

Newcastle have made their position clear, insisting that a sale of the 28-year-old Brazil international will not be entertained at that price level.

Despite the rejection, further talks are understood to be taking place, with Arsenal officials meeting to discuss the next steps in what has become a significant transfer pursuit.

Guimaraes has been one of Newcastle’s most important players in recent seasons, making him one of the most valuable midfielders currently available in the Premier League market.

Newcastle have already seen key figures depart, with Alexander Isak having moved to Liverpool last summer and Anthony Gordon completing a transfer to Barcelona this year.
