Manor Solomon Speaks Out Against Daniel Levy Over Botched Crystal Palace Transfer

Manor Solomon has publicly criticised the way Tottenham Hotspur handled his situation during last summer’s transfer window, expressing clear frustration with the club.

The Israeli winger has played just six competitive matches for Spurs since joining in 2023, spending time on three separate loan spells after suffering a serious knee injury in his debut season.

New Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi has informed Solomon that he plays no part in his plans for the upcoming campaign, meaning the 26-year-old must find a new club this summer.

Solomon had privately hoped that De Zerbi, his former coach at Shakhtar Donetsk, might give him a genuine opportunity within a reshaped Spurs squad ahead of the new season.

Speaking to Israeli outlet Sport 5, Solomon opened up on his deep affection for Leeds United, where he spent a successful loan spell before the transfer chaos unfolded.

“I really connected with Leeds, it’s a club that will always be in my heart. Especially the crowd, which is amazing. When I went to the first game and heard the Leeds crowd, I said to myself ‘I’ve come to the right place’. At the end of the season I wanted to be at Tottenham or Leeds,” he said.

The winger revealed that a move to Crystal Palace was derailed late in the window after Daniel Levy intervened, needing to free up squad space to pursue a French striker instead.

“I landed and got a call from [my agent]. He was nervous and said that they had the possibility of signing a French striker, Daniel Levy spoke to him and they need to clear a player on the squad and it was probably me,” Solomon explained.

After the Palace deal collapsed, Solomon described feeling completely done with Tottenham, ultimately rushing into a loan move to Villarreal under pressured circumstances near the end of the Spanish window.

“There were negotiations between the teams and there was probably bad blood there and the deal fell through in the last few hours. I’m on the national team, I was done from that day on. The transfer window is over, I didn’t want to stay at Tottenham. I was offended by them,” he said.

The Villarreal move quickly felt like a mistake, with Solomon describing a stark contrast to the professional environment he had experienced in England with Leeds.

“When you come from England and everything is arranged. When you sign, you get sent a message from a thousand and one places. The media guy, the team manager, the doctor… You’re so surrounded,” he said, noting that in Spain almost nobody communicated with him beyond the English-speaking coach.

Solomon eventually left Villarreal mid-season, switching to Fiorentina in an attempt to salvage the campaign and rebuild his form and confidence.

Despite his frustrations, Solomon acknowledged that Levy departed Tottenham the day after blocking the Palace deal, adding a bitter irony to the entire episode.

“I went through a lot of things with them that disappointed me. On the other hand, people change. Daniel Levy, who didn’t agree with Palace, left the day after. It still tickles me that I didn’t have the opportunity to succeed at Tottenham because I’m sure I could have done it,” he added.

With two years remaining on his contract, Spurs are now working to find the Israel international a permanent destination as both parties seek a clean break this summer.
