Spurs are showing real signs of momentum in the summer transfer window as new head coach Roberto De Zerbi prepares for his first major rebuild of the squad.
The north London club only secured Premier League survival on the final day of last season, with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton ultimately sending West Ham down to the Championship.
De Zerbi has wasted little time in reshaping the squad, already securing the free transfers of Andy Robertson from Liverpool and Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.
Robertson brings a wealth of Premier League experience to the club, while Senesi has proven himself as a dependable presence in England’s top flight over recent seasons.
A broader overhaul is anticipated throughout the squad, with the defensive unit a particular area of concern given the uncertain futures of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Tottenham have reached a £52million agreement for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, reuniting the Dutchman with De Zerbi, though Spurs had several bids rejected before a deal was finalised.
Van Hecke is currently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup, having featured in their opening group match against Japan, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
On the midfield front, Sandro Tonali has emerged as a primary target, with the club already holding talks with the player’s representatives over a potential switch from Newcastle United.
Newcastle value the Italian international at £100million, according to The Athletic, having paid £61million for his services, and they would be looking to profit on that initial outlay.
Tonali is said to have been offered to several other clubs, including Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, complicating Spurs’ pursuit of the midfielder.
Spurs are also reported to be yet to make direct contact with Newcastle over a formal transfer approach, meaning significant work remains before any agreement can be reached.
Attention is also turning to the left-wing position, with Tottenham reviving their interest in Manchester City’s Savinho after a failed pursuit of the winger during the previous summer window.
Savinho saw his opportunities at the Etihad limited last season, managing only seven starts for City, which could make a departure a more viable option this time around.
Should a deal for Savinho prove difficult to complete, Spurs have identified West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville as an alternative option, having also targeted the winger during the January transfer window.
