Brighton’s opening offer of £30 million for Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic has been firmly rejected by the North London club.
The 19-year-old Croatian international spent last season on loan at Hamburg, where he produced performances that have attracted serious attention from Premier League rivals.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham turned down Brighton’s offer without much thought, signalling just how highly they rate the teenage centre-back.
Spurs have no intention of negotiating Vuskovic’s departure and have placed a valuation of around £60 million on the defender, double what Brighton offered.
The Croatian joined Tottenham last summer following an impressive rise through the ranks at Hajduk Split, quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in Europe.
Given the limited game time available to him at Spurs, the club opted to send Vuskovic out on loan to Hamburg, where he went on to thrive in the German second division.
During his spell in Germany, the teenager appeared in 30 matches, racking up over 2,600 minutes of football and finishing the season with seven goal contributions.
Six of those contributions came from goals, with his aerial ability proving to be a major weapon as Hamburg pushed for promotion across the campaign.
His commanding physical presence and strong performances in the air quickly made him one of the standout centre-backs at his level, catching the eye of clubs far beyond Germany.
Brighton are now pursuing a new centre-back amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Jan Paul van Hecke, and they identified Vuskovic as an ideal long-term fit for their system.
The Seagulls, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, are known for their ability to develop young talent, which makes Vuskovic a particularly attractive target for the club.
However, with Tottenham valuing the 19-year-old at around £60 million, Brighton face an enormous challenge in bridging the gap between their initial bid and Spurs’ demands.
Unless Brighton are willing to significantly increase their offer, any deal for Vuskovic this summer looks highly unlikely to materialise.
