The contract expiry dates for each Aston Villa player in the main squad matter for their future with the team.
Contract expiry dates from each player are important and can determine their value in the transfer windows, especially when they become other teams’ targets. Their suitors could make an offer based on their value and the expiry dates, while the players’ club can put the proper price tag when they are in demand in the transfer market.
As the players’ contracts are closer to their end, their value can be bargained or even dropped when they are deemed surplus to the requirement. In the Aston Villa squad, a few players have experienced such a situation. Here are the contract expiry dates for each and every player in the Aston Villa squad.
Several names in the squad are set to have their contracts ended in June next year. Ross Barkley is one who could be cut loose for free. Yet, the rest still have the potential to stay, especially if they could step up and prove their worth when they get a nod on the pitch. They are Spanish right back Andreas Garcia and the youngster Lamar Bogarde.
Meanwhile, their loane signings, Jadon Sancho, Harvey Elliot, and Douglas Luiz, also have their contracts expire this summer. Villa have the obligation to buy for the last two names worth as much as £35 million and £26 million from Liverpool and Juventus respectively.
However, they do not activate them eventually. The internal disagreement between both clubs regarding the deal becomes the issue on Elliot, whereas Luiz’s own form did not impress Villa enough to consider making him permanent signings. Elliot and Luiz are expected to return to their parent clubs while Sancho becomes a free agent.
A number of key men in the Villa squad have their contracts end in summer 2027. They have been on the radar of Premier League rivals and elite sides abroad since last summer. They are Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia, Matty Cash, Tyrone Mings and the skipper, John McGinn. The others are the new signings, Marco Bizot and Victor Lindelof. Tielemans is likely to get extension following his fine form this season and Villa is keen on keeping him in the squad.
The next players whose contracts run out in summer 2028 are those with crucial roles in the team. Their main frontman, Ollie Watkins, is included alongside Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa. Another name is Lucas Digne, who just signed an extension last summer.
Only two names whose contract expires in summer 2029. Both are the key figures in the team, although one of them was attempting to push his exit and failed. He is none other than the one who always makes a headline, Emiliano Martinez. Another one is the defensive midfielder who is currently injured, Amadou Onana.
The remaining players in the first team squad have their contracts run out in summer 2030. Two of them is their current signing, Evann Guessand and Tammy Abraham. The others are their top talent: Morgan Rogers, Ian Maatsen, and Boubacar Kamara, who just extended his contract last summer.
Guessand is likely to make permanent switch to Crystal Palace following his loan spell with the 2026 UEFA Conference League winner in January. Rogers could be sold to the highest bidder to facilitate Villa’s transfer business more easily this summer.
