Will Marcus Rashford return to Aston Villa?

Marcus Rashford’s return to Aston Villa is still highly possible following the latest development in Barcelona.

Aston Villa have been targeting a number of names for their summer transfer business. Yet, there is one name which Unai Emery really pushes to sign. It is their former loan player, Marcus Rashford. According to the report in Mundo Sportivo earlier that the Villa boss is hoping Rashford would consider returning to Villa Park as the club would make a strong bid.

The Manchester United loanee appears to be not interested in going back to Bodymoor Heath, despite Villa’s return to Champions League and success Europa League recently. He is confident Barcelona would seal his move with 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions in the current season.

The Catalan giant boss, Hans Flick, also gives positive review on his loan spell and is willing to continue using his service for next season. His price tag is only £26 million. So, everything is on his side, plus Rashford’s preference to stay in Camp Nou with significant pay cut would only seem to make a return to Villa Park is very unlikely.

Sudden Uncertainty in Camp Nou

However, the latest development in the Catalan side leads to another uncertainty to Rashford’s future there. They are seemingly not prioritizing the 28-year-old forward. Instead, Barcelona have just completed another Englishman’s move there. They officially have signed Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon for even higher price tag, £70 million.

Gordon plays in the same preferred position as Rashford and younger but he has yet proven to play for elite team as the forward who spend the second half of 2024/25 season on loan with The Lions. What’s even worse, Gordon has been given five-year contract, something which Rashford has been hoping for.

In addition, Blaugrana is now also aiming to sign another forward who is even more expensive than the 25-year-old forward, Julian Alvarez. The Argentine has already asked to leave his current side, Atletico Madrid to join their rival. Yet, Atletico would not make it easy as they could tag him for around £150 million.

That does not even stop the Catalan giant to make an offer, which is unbelievable as they do not even want to make Rashford permanent signing. Should Alvarez switch happen, his future would even be in doubt.

Rashford’s return is likely?

With such reality, plus Barcelona’s lack of effort to match Manchester United’s demand, Rashford might have to consider other options. A number of clubs have shown their interest to sign him. Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich have become the potential suitor for the England international with 70 caps, beside Aston Villa.

The Gunners seem to be Villa’s current rival. They are ready to secure Rashford’s signature, should he opt not to cling on Barcelona. Mikel Arteta’s side is need of bolstering their forward with more experienced name on the left flank.

However, The Lions remains the ideal destination for him. Villa Park is no stranger for the winger who has netted 18 times for England. Emery knows his potential already and wants his return. Villa would not have a problem to pay out his release clause.

Rashford’s spell in the Midlands was quite impressive too with four goals and six assists in 17 games only. Villa is no longer the mid table. Silverware is now their main goals with UEFA Super Cup is the upcoming one to win.

Now, it all depends on the product of Manchester United academy himself. Villa might not be a global elite as Barcelona, but they can be the savior he needs for his career, since returning to United is no longer considered. So, what do you say, Rashford?
