Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has told the club he wants to leave Stamford Bridge this summer in search of regular first-team football.
The 24-year-old held a face-to-face meeting with Chelsea recently to formally discuss his future and make his intentions clear to the club’s hierarchy.
Jorgensen, who signed for just north of £20million from Villarreal in the summer of 2024, is determined to find a club where he can play consistently.
The Danish goalkeeper communicated his desire for regular minutes to Chelsea’s head of global goalkeeping Ben Roberts during those discussions.
Jorgensen featured just 12 times for Chelsea during the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign, a lack of involvement that has driven his desire to move on.
He has still earned international recognition, however, having been called up by Denmark for the upcoming World Cup despite his limited club action.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old goalkeeper Mike Penders is set to be integrated into Chelsea’s first-team squad this summer under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Penders made a strong impression during a loan spell at Strasbourg, also owned by BlueCo, and will now be given an opportunity at senior level.
Alonso is expected to choose between current number one Robert Sanchez and Penders as he prepares for his debut season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish manager is also expected to wield considerably more transfer power than his recent predecessors as he looks to shape the squad to his liking.
Ben Roberts, Chelsea’s head of global goalkeeping, is set to retain an important role within the club’s structure under the incoming manager.
Beyond the goalkeeping situation, Chelsea are understood to be targeting additions in several areas, including a centre-back, a midfielder, and a left-sided winger this summer.
Further positions across the squad could also be addressed as the club looks to provide Alonso with the tools necessary to compete in his first season at the club.
