Ahead of the first round at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Brooks Koepka told reporters in his press conference that he feels like he’s in “complete control” of his game. His results on Thursday back that up.
The five-time major champion came out firing in Round 1, making two birdies and an eagle over his first nine at TPC Craig Ranch to quickly reach four under for the tournament. The stellar play put Koepka near the top of the leaderboard early. He then made three birdies early in his second nine to reach seven under and tie for the early lead.
But this week’s betting favorite, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, also got into red numbers early in Round 1.
The two stars played in the same group along with Si Woo Kim, and they’ll tee it up together again for Friday’s second round.
Koepka, Scheffler and Kim will tee off for the second round on Friday at 1:43 p.m. ET.
