Sasha Alex Morgan is a London-based yoga and Pilates teacher offering classes in studio and on her online platform, Sasha Alex Studio. We caught up with Sasha to learn more about her background and inspirations…
I am a 27 year old Pilates and Yoga instructor based in London, but I love to travel around, teaching and sharing movement from beautiful locations! I have been teaching in studios, at events and on retreats for about 7 years and I am the owner of my online platform of 4 years, Sasha Alex Studio. I have a background in dance and thankfully discovered Yoga during some difficult dance college years in London. Yoga quickly became a sanctuary for me, in which I could focus on how movement felt over how it looked and on healing my body over punishing it. My greatest aim as an instructor is for others to experience the power of mindful and embodied movement too. I am completely in love with my work and how it has connected me to wonderful humans, including this community! I also love deep chats, the Huberman Lab podcast, chocolate orange (a lifelong obsession), sunset by the sea, running, coffee, psychology books and travel.
I always start my day with a 10 minute meditation practice followed by journaling with coffee. It has got to the point where my day just doesn’t feel right without it! I then will have a Yoga or Pilates practice at home before doing some class prep, heading out to teach at an event, to train clients or working on my online studio, Sasha Alex Studio. About twice a week I strength train and sauna in the afternoon and then later in the day I might have calls, do some SA Studio video editing and social media posts. By early evening I tend to wind down by catching up with my partner, making a healthy dinner and watching Netflix with some chocolate.
During my time at dance college around 10 years ago we had ‘sculpt’ style classes which weren’t dissimilar to contemporary mat pilates and I had dabbled a little on Youtube. However at that point Yoga alone had my heart and it wasn’t until a few years into teaching Yoga and Barre, that I discovered a couple of inspiring instructors and developed a love for the depth and detail of mat Pilates. I decided to train in 2020 with STOTT Pilates and it turned out to be the most transformative experience in terms of both my self practice and my quality of instructing!
I have a fascination with anatomy and with my dance background, being able to teach effective and precise alignment is important to me. I specifically love contemporary mat Pilates because it allows the same freedom on the mat as a Yoga practice can whilst being grounded in precise technique based on modern anatomical research.
In many ways! Physically in terms of greater body awareness, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and being able to move with more ease for life. These physical benefits often lead to decreased stress/better nervous system regulation, more focus and clarity, more self awareness and self compassion, and most importantly I believe, a sense of being more at home in their body. I have had clients tell me how my classes have transformed their relationship with exercise, discovering that movement does not need to be punishing to be effective and that sometimes gentle movement is what we need most.
