Aston Villa target in the previous transfer window could be available for quite an affordable price to sign.
Aston Villa have been actively in search of more young talents from South America. The abundance of such in the region would mean Villa can sign them with lower prices.
Last summer the Lions were keeping tabs on the Brazilian youngster who plays for Goias, the second tier side in Brazilian Serie B. Unfortunately, they were handed over the huge release clause last April, which kept them out of the race to sign him.
However, the later development might lead to a possibility to sign him in the future as reported in Sportwitness.
“Aston Villa and Newcastle United now have a clearer idea of what it could cost to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Rodrigues, with Goiás setting a minimum price of €7m (£6.1m) just to open negotiations.”
The 19-year old midfielder is currently under contract with his club till December 2029. His release clause is £38m. Yet, recently there has been an interest from Vasco Da Gama. They were said to have offered him for £ 3 m but it was not considered enough to secure his move. Yet, it was not regarded as an official offer.
The idea of a starting fee of £6.1m emerges due to the potential financial situation at the club. Nevertheless, the management denies any of such rumor and would not go easy on the transfer talks with any potential suitors, including Unai Emery’s side.
It will be interesting to see if The Clarets and Blue are still keen on signing him. There will definitely be quite a competition to secure his move apart from Newcastle, either in January or next summer.
Rodrigues is a versatile midfielder who can be deployed as defensive midfielder, or be given a number 6 and 10 role. He was promoted to the first team last year. So far, he has made 37 appearances, contributing six goals and one assist in all competitions.
He has helped Goias win regional competition, Campeonato Goiano this year. The Brazil U20 player registered four goals and one assist.
According to the data in FotMob, the Planaltina-born midfielder has been in form this season. He has created 17 shots in the league, with three head shots. His successful passes reach up to 84.2 %, while the long ball distribution rate is 60.4 % and 33.3% for the successful cross.
His successful dribble rate is up to 48.6 % with the winning duels reaching at 53.2 %. Rodrigues’ defensive contribution is superb too with 36 tackles, nine interceptions, three blocking shots and 21 clearances.
