Juventus will stay together in a training retreat at the JTC Continassa from Friday 30 October until Sunday's game against Napoli, after a blunt meeting between Giovanni Carnevali, the players and Luciano Spalletti. That home fixture is now widely seen as decisive for the coach's future and the direction of the season.
A direct meeting with chief executive Giovanni Carnevali has put the Juventus players and their coach under heavy pressure before Napoli’s visit.
The trigger was the loss in Genoa. Kingsley Ehizibue struck in the 12th minute, and Tommaso Baldanzi added a second in the 28th. Spalletti apologised to the supporters afterwards. He said his side had been beaten in every area. He added that they had to raise their physical level and fighting spirit.
The squad travelled back by train overnight. The players went to the Continassa the next morning. Management spoke to them there before training. Carnevali reminded them of their responsibilities to the owners, the club and the fans. He said the coaching staff still had the club’s trust, Adnkronos reported. He also asked for a strong and concrete reaction on the pitch. With the club’s agreement, Spalletti then chose to keep the players together at the training centre until kick-off.
Clubs rarely call this kind of retreat. It shows how serious the mood is at the Continassa. The message from the top is twofold. Public backing for the coaching staff comes paired with pressure for results. That places heavy weight on a single fixture.
Both sides have four wins, two draws and three defeats from nine games, Corriere dello Sport reported. Napoli sit seventh and Juventus eighth.
The gap lies in front of goal. Napoli have scored 17 times. Juventus have managed 11. Juventus have conceded only 10, however. Those figures are consistent with a side whose problems lie more in attack than in defence. A reaction against Napoli would need goals as well as fighting spirit.
Napoli will be without their coach. Massimiliano Allegri’s two-match ban covers their league games against Monza and Juventus. Serie A sporting judge Gerardo Mastrandrea also fined him 10,000 euros. The sanction followed his abuse of match officials and later behaviour in the changing rooms during Napoli’s 3-3 draw with Roma. Napoli first announced an appeal. Allegri later said he had decided to drop it. That leaves Juventus facing a Napoli side without Allegri in charge at a moment when their own coach is under pressure.
The last meeting between the sides in Turin, on 25 January 2026, ended in a 3-0 Juventus win at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus host Napoli at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday 1 November 2026, with kick-off at 20:45.
