Wyndham Clark has a new caddie on the bag at this week’s 2026 VidantaWorld Mexico Open. And while the reigning U.S. Open champion’s new bag man might not look familiar to you, he’s very familiar to Clark.
That’s because his new caddie is his younger brother, Brendan Clark.
While Brendan’s gig is a temporary one, the manner in which he landed his PGA Tour caddie job is well worth your time.
It turns out that two weddings — and one sibling threat — conspired to give the Clark brothers an opportunity of a lifetime this week in Mexico.
Since Clark is a two-time major champion and the World No. 5, the job to carry his bag is an enviable one for pro caddies. And Clark already has a caddie, David Pelekoudas, that he’s very happy with.
So, the first thing that needed to happen to give Brendan a shot at the job was for Pelekoudas to be unavailable. That’s where the first wedding comes into play.
During the summer, Pelekoudas asked his boss if he could take Mexico Open week off so he could attend a friend’s wedding.
“Yeah, so Big Wave Dave is at a wedding in Italy and he asked, gosh, maybe like three, four months ago if I was going to play during this week,” Clark explained in his Mexico Open press conference on Wednesday. “Initially I said I don’t know if I’m going to play, then when we decided to. He was like, ‘if you want me to not go’ — it’s one of his best friends so I was like, ‘no, go and enjoy that.'”
Once Clark decided he did want to play the Mexico Open, he needed to find a fill-in caddie. But that job opening didn’t last long. Brendan, Clark’s brother, also has a wedding coming up, and he used that fact to present an ultimatum to his big brother: let me caddie in the Mexico Open or consider your wedding invite voided.
“Then my brother jumped on it and he said, ‘I’m caddying for you, otherwise you’re not coming to the wedding,'” Clark revealed on Wednesday.
Clark was quick to clarify that whether or not Brendan’s threat was in jest, he was thrilled with the opportunity to spend some quality time with his brother.
“Of course I wanted my brother, too. It’s kind of fun for us,” Clark explained. “He lives in Kansas City, I live in Arizona. We see each other good amount but not as much as we would like, so this will be a fun, special week.”
Whatever happens on the course, Clark admitted the week will act like a vacation for the two couples. But it’s not all fun and jokes. Clark also revealed that he’s hoping to play well so Brendan can earn a big check to help offset wedding expenses.
“Anytime I tee it up I’m trying to play my best. So I would love for my brother with his wedding coming up a great week so I can give him a nice check to help pay for the wedding and honeymoon,” Clark said.
The winner’s check at this week’s Mexico Open is $1.08 million. Caddies typically earn 5-10 percent of their players’ winnings. If Wyndham can pull off his fourth victory of the year, Brendan could walk away with more than $100,000.
That should help with the wedding.
