Aston Villa boss attempts to find positive side from their loss against Bournemouth in Carabao Cup last night.
Aston Villa’s positive trend ends quite abruptly following their loss in the EFL League Cup this week. Emery’s decision to rotate the squad heavily has yet to pay off as Villa was beaten 3-0 by the Cherries. Amir Adli, Lewis Cook and Alvaro Rodrigues were the scorer in the game at Vitality Stadium. Villa are once again ousted from this competition.
Nevertheless, Unai Emery tries to find the lesson in this defeat, despite feeling disappointed with the result, as reported in Express & Star.
“Playing Marco Bizot, playing Taylor, playing Leon Goretzka, playing as well Brian Madjo. I think it is positive to play some players and they play well. We need players.
“Being disappointed, we must try to get this match to get some positive issues with how some players were getting better.”
Emery admitted that his team was not at their best despite their attempts to take on the host, which has been famous for their intensity. The Cherries did just that, with the intensity in early minutes in both half.
”Bournemouth is difficult. We played here four times and four times it has been very difficult. We needed to be clinical and in defence. We needed it today as well but we didn’t.”
“The players did everything they planned but the intensity they had in the first 15 minutes of the first and second half was the difference. We created chances and we were clinical. The second half we created chances but did not score.”
Such appears to be something Villa must be aware of. Emery are bound to find the solution to face off the team with the same tactics. Otherwise, other teams could copy Marco Rose’s men’s way to beat Aston Villa either in the Premier League or Champions League.
Goretzka and Madjo made full debut while Garnacho came off the bench in 57 minutes. Overall, they were doing quite well except for the clinical finish.
The former Bayern man did well in the buildup. He made 35 passes with three of them as key passes, one long ball, twice dribbling, and one shot. Defensively, Goretzka also contributed well with two clearances and one tackle.
Meanwhile, the youngster Brian Madjo displayed his talent but he definitely needs more regular minutes to improve. The 17-year-old forward had two shots on target, one key pass, made one dribble, one tackle, 10 passes and 17 touches. Unfortunately, he really needs to work on his finishing touch to be ready to be Nicolas Jackson’s proper understudy.
Last but not least, the Argentine winger had a quite promising form within his limited time on the pitch. He created one accurate shot, one accurate cross, one key pass, with 22 touches and 13 passes. Garnacho could have provided an assist if his cross to Alysson met his header but he squandered the chance.
