Aston Villa news as squad rotation is inevitable v Bournemouth in Carabao Cup

Aston Villa are set to face off Bournemouth on the road in the midweek for the Carabao Cup clash.

Aston Villa congested fixtures are bound to begin this week following their win in the previous round at the Carabao Cup versus Coventry. Should they be beaten, they could have an extra week for resting the squad.

It was in fact one of the games used by Unai Emery to experiment for his team with the new signings and young players. The duel in Vitality stadium is not much different. This is where the rotation is inevitable.

Villa could test themselves if they can cope with The Cherries with their second team. Marco Rose’s men have been unbeaten in the past four games in all competitions, including the clash versus AC Milan in Europa League in the midweek and Manchester United in the Premier League last weekend. It will be interesting to see if Villa’s B team is up for the challenge.

Who are rested?

Aston Villa still have several names on the injury table. Four players are still on the sideline due to their injury. Amadou Onana, Aaron Wan Bissaka, Matteo Ruggeri and Modou Cisse are still ruled out for this game.

In the meantime, the need to rotate the squad would let Emery rest a number of players. Zion Suzuki, Victor Lindelof, Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara, Joao Gomes, John McGinn, Johan Manzambi and Nicolas Jackson are expected to be on the bench. They will be playing more often as more crucial games are ahead.

In the starting line-up, Marco Bizot should get a nod instead of James Wright, unless Emery wants to give minutes for the England youngster. At the backline, Lamare Bogarde and Tyrone Mings are likely to start as full back in both flanks while Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Pau Torres or one name from the reserve team can be promoted in this game.

In the midfield, Leon Goretzka and Ross Barkley will be the starter with George Hemmings, Alejandro Garnacho and Alysson operating on the attacking midfielder and both flanks to support Brian Madjo. The Ensfield-born forward could start ahead of Tammy Abraham to see if he is ready to play for 90 minutes or not.
