Arsenal launched an aggressive pursuit of Vinicius Junior last summer, and his representative has now revealed just how seriously the Brazilian considered making the move.
Michael Yormark, president of Roc Nation Sports International, confirmed that Arsenal’s approach was significant enough to genuinely capture the Real Madrid winger’s attention.
Yormark, speaking in an interview with SportsBoom, was candid about the level of interest Arsenal showed in prising Vinicius away from the Spanish giants.
“You saw the news; Arsenal was very involved. They were very aggressive,” Yormark said, underlining just how far the Premier League champions were prepared to go.
When asked directly whether Vinicius had given serious thought to the move, Yormark did not hesitate to confirm the interest was genuine and meaningful.
“Did he ever seriously consider Arsenal? I mean, of course,” Yormark said, making clear the approach had registered at the highest level.
“When a team like Arsenal rolls out the red carpet for you and makes you feel really wanted, then obviously you have to listen,” he added, explaining the logic behind the player’s openness to the idea.
Despite the genuine consideration, Yormark was equally clear that a completed transfer was never truly close to becoming reality, with Madrid always the preferred destination.
“Vini’s heart is in Madrid, that’s where he’s always wanted to be, and that’s where he is, and that’s where he hopes to be for the rest of his career,” Yormark said.
Grant Veitch, another senior figure at Roc Nation, further explained that Vinicius’s deeply embedded position at Real Madrid ultimately proved to be the decisive factor in his thinking.
The winger had already established himself as one of the club’s most important players and was focused on building on his success by winning further trophies in the Spanish capital.
His comfort at the club, his stature within the squad, and his ambitions for future glory all pointed firmly toward staying rather than making a leap to north London.
The prolonged saga finally reached its conclusion in August when Vinicius signed a new contract with Real Madrid extending his stay at the club until June 2032.
That deal effectively ended Arsenal’s hopes of landing one of world football’s most exciting players, drawing a definitive line under a pursuit that had consumed much of the summer transfer window.
