Aston Villa keeping tabs on opposition player after Champions League clash

Aston Villa have been making an approach to sign the player from the opposition side while the both teams clashed in UCL.

Aston Villa transfer business appears to be working on the clock almost non stop. The Lions have reportedly identified their latest target as well as have been holding talks with the players’ camp and club. Their target was apparently playing for their opposition side in their last outing of Champions League. The aforementioned player is Fenerbahce’s Oguz Aydin.

The Lions did not waste the time. They made direct contact with him immediately last week, as reported in Sabah via Sportmole.

“Villa have already held ‘direct talks’ with club officials as they explore the possibility of securing a deal for the 25-year-old. “

His current situation

The 25-year old winger joined Fener in 2024 and signed a contract, which expires in summer 2028. Villa appears to have laid their interest Emery took the chance of Fenerbahce’s visit at Villa Park last week.

Villa has inquired about Aydin’s current situation to sign him in January instead of next summer. The direct talks have been in progress. However, there has yet to be any confirmation whether the Turkish giant is keen on selling him or the asking price from them. His current value in Transfermarkt is about £ 7.7 million but could be reaching up to £ 17.2 million, should he be available on sale in the next transfer window.

How good is Oguz Aydin?

Aydin is a versatile winger who can play in both flanks, but can also operate as the attacking midfielder and striker when necessary. He can even be deployed as defensive midfielder and wing back in both flanks.

The winger with 16 international caps has played 85 games for Fenerbahce, netting 10 goals and providing 15 assists in all competitions. His versatility has made him play regularly and attracted interest from Emery who is really looking for such a player in times of crisis.

Based on the data in FotMob, his form this season in the domestic league has been impressive. His xG is 1.37 whereas his xA is 1.39. He has made 13 shots with five of them on target. His percentage of successful passes is  85.3 % while his accurate long ball is rated 66.7 %. Aydin has created 13 chances with two of them being big chances.

The Den Haag-born winger has 60 % successful dribbles and 45 % winning duels. He can contribute well defensively with 6 tackles, four interceptions plus three clearances. Aydin also has made 14 recoveries.

In the international stage, the former Alanyaspor man has been included in 2026 FIFA World Cup final squad but only featured once, when they beat the host 3-2. Overall, he has contributed six assists in 16 games.
