Aston Villa star hoping for ‘hattrick’ in the next Champions League games

Aston Villa star Nicolas Jackson appears to have ambitions of scoring a hat-trick in the next Champions League game following his side’s latest outing.

Aston Villa secured their biggest win in the European competition yesterday. A 6-0 victory is a record in its own right in the club’s history. One of the stars in that game was their frontman, Nicolas Jackson.

The Senegalese international, who was initially deemed unsuitable for the Lions last summer, shared his thoughts after the match, as reported by avfc.co.uk.

“A very good win today. The second day of the Champions League, and we were very happy to get the win and clean sheet.

“I’m just playing, trying to score every game and winning and helping the team. Playing for the manager as well is very important, and (I’m) just trying to win games and focus on the pitch, that’s the most important for me.

“I’m very happy. The most important that we win, and hopefully next time I will get the hat-trick!”

Nicolas Jackson and UCL goals

As a prolific forward who is expected to score goals and help his current side consistently deliver positive results this campaign, Jackson has already netted three times in two Champions League games this season.

Overall, the 25-year-old forward has scored six goals in total in the competition. He had never played in the Champions League for Chelsea or Villarreal back then, and during his time at Bayern, he managed to bag only three goals and two assists. They were all registered last season. Jackson scored against Pafos, Club Brugge and Atalanta.

Since he was only Harry Kane’s deputy at Die Roten, he could not help wanting to score more, even a hat-trick in the last outing. He had a chance to notch his third goal as Villa were awarded a penalty, but it was Ross Barkley who took it instead.

Unai Emery explained the decision when answering questions from the press. It was the team’s decision, as the former Chelsea and Everton man has the best record from the penalty spot. Yet, the Spanish boss said that he was open to giving the next penalties to Jackson.

His praise for the youngsters

Apart from his ambition to score a hat-trick, the former Villarreal and Chelsea man reserved his compliments for two young talents who have linked up well with him: 21-year-old Johan Manzambi and 19-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye. The former opened his account in the Champions League, while the latter provided an assist in this win over Fenerbahce.

Jackson shared his thoughts on the Switzerland international.

“He’s a really top, top player. I’m very happy that we’re playing together. Hopefully we score many goals together and give each other assists a lot. I’m very happy to play with him, and hopefully many more to come with him. He’s an amazing player.”

Meanwhile, the Banjul-born forward also commented on his Senegalese teammate.

“He’s an amazing player as well. We play in the national team together, so we have a good connection. We talk a lot. He is progressing. Hopefully he will get more time to play. He’s a very amazing player. He’s very fast, as well as me. It’s good to have him today. Hopefully, many more starts and many goals to come for him as well.”
