Aston Villa boss expects the ‘fast process’ after Brentford draw

Aston Villa boss believes the process of adaptation needs to be done fast after failing to win again at home yesterday.

Aston Villa once again stumbled at their home turf following their tie while hosting Brentford yesterday. They had to share spoils in a 2-2 draw. It was rather disappointing result as they were aiming to continue their positive trend before the international break. Sadly, they failed to win again at home.

Unai Emery seems to be sharing the same feeling. He realizes it is part of the rebuilding process this season, as reported in ESPN.

“In football, the passion and the process must be as fast as possible but understanding for some situations we have to work hard and use each match to improve.”

How the game folded

The match was tight indeed. Both teams traded chances and goals too eventually. The Bees took the lead first through Yehor Yarmoliu in the 10th minute. Yet, it did not take long before Nicolas Jackson found the equalizer. He took advantage of the Emi Buendia’s deflected shot fell in front of the goal and smashes it home.

Unfortunately, Matteo Ruggeri was injured and forced out to be replaced by Aaron Wan Bissaka in the second half. Once again both had several attempts and both goalies made clinical saves too. In the 77th minutes, John McGinn put them on the lead this time. He shot to the far side of the post. However, their lead only last for two minutes as Keith Andrews’ side put them back on level term with Kristoffer Ajer’s goal.

Emery shared his view on the result.

“We were expecting the match like they played, a tough match. We were expecting to try and dominate the ball more than we did. We had enough chances to score, we scored two goals even though we created more.

“I think we improved. The last time we played at home against Nottingham [Forest] and Arsenal but defensively we conceded more than we expected. They scored two goals, had chances as well and threatened us. The result is maybe fair, the draw, and for this we are not happy, we are sad.

The possible reasons

Several reason can be considered the reason leading to this disappointing result, from the lack of clinical finishes, or Tyrone Ming’s blunder or perhaps Ruggeri’s unexpected injury. However, Emery seems to underline the adaptation process of the new players

“After the match against Nottingham, some players are adapting to us and getting minutes. We are going to need time with some players but it is something we know and we must be passionate.”

The Spaniard appears to point out Ruggeri’s and Wan Bissaka’s form. Both did OK defensively in the game. Both made one key passes. The Italian intercepted once, plus made five clearances while Wan Bissaka tackled twice, made one interceptions and two clearances.

Emery also saw Ibrahim Mbaye and Alysson, who had not been able to make the difference while being brought on in the second half. The former came off the bench first in the 63rd minute before the latter did in the 85th minute.

Mbaye did produce a shot, which was also on target, plus one key pass, winning aerial duel twice plus one cross. On the other hand, Alysson only made one key pass and one cross without any significant contribution yet. This is going to be Villa’s real homework because when the congested fixtures begin, they need to rotate the squad and need some figures who could change the game from the bench. Training them, especially with the new signing to be impactful as the game goes, could take some time.

The atmosphere in Villa Park due to the empty North Stand. This side of the venue would remain like this till the end of the campaign for its renovation. Brentford boss weighed in on this matter.

“I certainly hated it as a player. It just feels wrong doesn’t it? I don’t know what it is, I have a little bit of OCD so maybe it’s that because if there’s a whole stand missing it doesn’t sit well with me.

“But naturally it does not generate the atmosphere but I love coming here, it is a special place to come. With the stand missing it is a bit different.

Even the away side did not like the idea having no fans supporting on that part. Let alone the Villans. The quiet North Stand does give a slight disadvantage for them. It is something John McGinn and Co really need to hold on throughout the season.
